Deck Description

Modern Format Mill Deck
My first attempt at a Mill Deck. Any good Mill cards that I am missing?

Note: My Sideboard is not the Sideboard that I would actually use with this deck they are just other cards that I am considering.

Deck discussion for Mill--Any Advice?

my friend has a deck very similar to this his biggest problem was running out of steam before the library was completely gone so we retuled it slightly making use of black discard spells. the deck is now pretty fierce the added discard slows your opponent way down allowing you to take full advantage of the mill 4 hymn to taurach would be a good start....

ya I thought about mill/discard/pick up but I want to try straight mill

Dralnu Lich lord is a must! Check out my mill deck, there are some other cards that you could use.http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=269584

Great deck though, I like it!

Dralnu, Lich Lord is actually a really cool card and not just for Mill. I thank you for bringing this card to my attention. The only bad side is that if a player targets it with spells that deal damage I will be loosing my permanents. If it was given shroud/hexproof somehow it would honestly be a sick addition to any deck.

I gave your deck a like :)

I would also consider bojuka bog or some leyline of the void. with every casual deck either using gaias blessing or a mythic eldrazi for recursion all your hard work can be instantly reset. also, Circu, Dimir Lobotomist and Oona, Queen of the fae are some other creatures that you could consider in this depending on your tastes. Otherwise its a great start man. I should really update my posted mill deck soon lol.

If I was to add Bojuka Bog, Leyline of the Void and Circu, Dimir Lobotomist then I should probably take out Liliana Vess and Geth, Lord of the Vault as there effects for my opponents graveyard will thus be useless. I could replace Geth, Lord of the Vault with Oona, Queen of the Fae then. But if I choose not to make these changes then you are right I would have to deal with deckswith things like Gaea's Blessing and mythic rare Eldrazi

understandable about the straight mill might consider running grindstone in the sideboard its really great against mono colored decks

Grindstone is good against mono colored decks, I'll think about it.

Grindstone + Painter Servant = opponent dead. (Normally lands are colourless, but Painter grants colour to lands too)

forced fruition is another way to screw your opponent over when they play spells, its a 7 draw per spell, plus the 2 mill you already have, so 9 cards a spell they cast :)

oh ya I do like that. It would combo well with Jace's Archivist too. I just don't like that it costs 6 mana.

0

its more of a finisher, combo with traumatize the turn before, should run them out of cards in less than 2 turns with other mill cards

I put in a mortivore for mine just for fun, and very powerful early with mill conditions

I would suggest a mindcrank and liability sort of thing, put a card in the discard, player takes 1 damage, mindcrank puts another card in discard

I've got a bunch of Mill decks on my page if you want to compare. I would say add shriekgeist, it hurts and mills at the same time. If not, dimir cutpurse it good; gives you a lot of card advantage.

Here's a few things you could use:
Jace's Erasure. This works well with the draw you get with Jae's Archivist or Jace, Memory Adept's +1 and -7.
Isochron Scepter. Put a Glimpse the Unthinkable on this and your opponent mite just cry :p

0
Posted 20 April 2012 at 12:25

Glimpse the Unthinkable is a sorcery, Isochron scepter can only imprint an instant card.
Scepters work best with the kamigawa arcane cards. Copy & Splice

Curse of the Bloody Tome, Guard Gomazoa, Wall of Frost, Mind Funeral, Nemesis of Reason, Hedron Crab, Keening Stone, Tome Scour, Traumatize, Archive Trap, Dream Twist

Plus whatever creature removal cards you can throw in for black spells. Wall of Frost/Guard Gomazoa for defense

0

Trepanation Blade on some fast little creatures would be hilarious. Increasing Confusion is also a good card.

Mesmeric Orb

you should look at at least sideboarding massive removal - counterbore or the ever classic traumatize + haunting echoes. (if they are not running singleton - haunting is a very very devistating card - and Modern legal!

1

So true! I have a similar deck and even having haunting echoes as a one of in the main deck has been incredibly powerful!

I'm a big fan of the Sigil of sleep, Warped Devotion, megrim combo. pop that on a prodigal sorcerer and you can ping the enemies away mean against indestructible decks..

In a straight mill deck, Millstone is always a must.

0

Mindcrank is funny if you are using the warped devotion, megrim combo

Also Ambassador Laquatus. 1uu,1/3 Legendary creature: merfolk wizard [3] mill the top 3 cards from target opponents library into their graveyard.

Phyrexian colossus + alter of dementia.

Dampen thought + Ishocron scepter. (I use that one here http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=313578)

Jace Beleren...

Thought Dissector

Whetwheel

Glimpse the Unthinkable UB Sorcery Mill 10 cards from target player

Grindclock

Memory Erosion

I'd say shriekhorn is a better onedrop than memory sluice, also i personally like sewer nemesis over Mortivore because of the mill effect on it.

0

I don't know. the conspire makes it very powerful. 8 cards to shriekhorn's 6.

0

throw a few gitaxian probes and some terramorphic expanse/evolving wilds in there, they allow you better access to your deck, plus hedron crab +terramorphic expanse = 6 mill

0

Undead Alchemist x3 instead of the Mortivore and Adepts, your spells will do all the mill work, could work nice with Geth and make Dralnu and instant maindeck (which he already should be IMO because your mill power is in your spells),and will give you all the 2/2 you could ever want to block with while you mill away.

Also the Headron Crabs are great but you need to make more use of them, Fetchlands, Ramp, anything to be getting more lands down.

I like what your trying to do but it feels like your using a bunch of different mill types that dont synergise at all.

P.S Check out my Standard Zombie Mill deck :D

usually in a mill deck u want cards like jace beleren howling mine, bell tower, so u both draw cards and u never run out of steam while playing crads like sleep and wrath of god orwhatever sweepers u prefer those r the only versions of mill decks that have ever won tournaments u need to be more proactive whith what your opponent is doing instead of trying to race him with card dissadvantage and nothing that effects baord position u want cards like meekstone or moat so they cant just beat u instantly cause u dont put up a fight

0

the reason a lot of people generally dislike mill is because mill is weak in comparison to normal decks, partially due to when you run mill, you are also increasing your opponents life total by 40 extra points.

This means that when you play tome scour, you are dealing the opponent around 1.7 damage, and hedron crab has landfall: target player loses 1 life, and you can tap cathartic to deal 0.33 damage.

The only mill deck that stands the slightest chance against me is the zombie mill deck using that skaab from innistrad. It only beat me once, and that when I was playing a ninja deck, and god severely mana flooded.
