Deck Description

So this is the deck I used to win my local game day. In general it worked out pretty well, but I have cut a ruinous path for a Drana. I also want to find room for Silk Wraps (x 2) and another Utter End in my 75. Utter End was just good whenever I drew it. Silk Wraps would help against the creatures I am weak against (Jace and Hangarback, which are two creatuers I don't want to be weak against). Anyway, it ran well, beat people down, and let me say, "Moo" whenever a rhino was cast. And I got a Drana playmat for the trouble.

How to Play

With regards to the main board, there is nothing to really discuss. It is an Abzan list... I found Ob Nix to be incredible in any match up beyond tokens. He was weak against Hangarback as well, but that is fine. He usually came down and thunked a creature dead. I loved the card draw against control decks, and he drew their removal before Rhino most of the time. His curve placement is right when I need to start drawing cards.

Main board Languish is 100% good. Turn 4 board wipe proved solid quite often. I had a friend recommend cutting one or both. That would have been bad advice to follow. I loved this card in practice. I always looked at the board, my opponent would ask, "So languish?" They would then sigh and clear out their creatures. That felt good. I will say the one match up this card sucked in was the Assault Formation deck. FNM budget brewers made this card and Abzan Charm bad against them. But hey, sideboards exist for a reason. Against premier decks that weren't control (and this even killed a Dragonlord Ojutai at one point), Languish is mainboardable.

So on the advice of a friend, I approached constructing my sideboard with two archetypes in mind, Control and Red Agro. Everything else can be fought with cards that are good against those 2.

So versus agro, I have Arashin Cleric, Surge of Righteousness, Ultimate Price, Crux/Tragic Arrogance, and sometimes Sorin.

Against control, I have Duress, Utter End, Read the Bones, Transgress the Mind, Tasigur, Sorin, and sometimes Crux (if they are on Dragons).

Pretty much every game I ended up siding 6 cards, and often 8-9. Jeskai to eat the hand disruption part of my control plan, but the creature removal aspects of my anti- agro. This kept my post board plans pretty solid straight through.
