Deck Description

Since it's first inception, this deck has gone through a lot of changes and some complete overhauls. Currently, as weird as it may sound, I'm not running it to assemble some combos, or whatever. It's build as a mid-range beatdown, with a few decent ETB effects that we can take advantage of early / later when our grave is full. I do have a few mill spells, but I tend to think of them as more of an early fix-me-up in case our lands are bad, or to filter our top deck a little, preparing some stuff to the grave. The deck also plays quite a few things that give us life. It's needed since we have quite some pain in our manabase, we start racing a little later, so we need a few band aids to survive until we get our big guys out. Also, RDW has been bugging me a lot lately, and it feels like it should be a favourable match-up.

The original commander since the deck's inception has always been Karador. It went through some changes, being a combo kill with Boonweaver giant, general ETB abuse, then later I switched to Abzan goodstuff deck. Recently, I wanted to explore the option of switching to a Ravos and Reyhan combo on the helm, as both kinda support the kill my own stuff and reanimate strategy, while also boosting creature heavy strategy that goes face. But for now, I'll stick with Karador and see how the deck plays after the changes I made to it recently.

Do note that this deck is tuned to 1v1 Commander (French banlist). It's not top tier, but it's mine and I'm not a fan of copying some T1 lists of the internet. Sideboard currently contains cards that I still need to obtain. Deck is in a state that I'd like it to have.

How to Play

POD TARGETS
Life gain:
2mana = Scavenging ooze
3mana = Circuit mender / Kitchen finks
4mana = Siege rhino / Sheoldred, the apocalypse
5mana = Cavalier of night

Draw:
3mana = Midnight reaper
3mana = Tireless tracker

Hand destruction:
2mana = Tidehollow sculler
3mana = Sin collector

Creature removal:
3mana = Demon's disciple / Plague crafter / Grist, the hunger tide
4mana = Ravenous chupacabra / Rankle, master of pranks
5mana = Cavalier of night
6mana = Sun titan (bringin' back one of the things before)

Non-creature removal:
2mana = Cathar commando
3mana = Knight of autumn

Big muscle:
3mana = Tireless tracker
4mana = Siege rhino / Sheoldred, the apocalypse / Questing beast
5mana = Cavalier of night / Obzedat, ghost council

Grave hate:
1mana = Death-rite shaman
2mana = Scavenging ooze
3mana = Graveyard trespasser

Given the option to get her out T4-ish, Braids, cabal minion is the biggest threat early. Unless answered, we're much better prepared to handle a sacrifice every turn.

Local tournament score (pre-changes):
19.10.2022 - 2:2; w:l . Not much to say. Lost to an RDW and Karlov, won against Niv-mizzet, parun (he didn't draw well, hardly played anything) and Kroxa.

16.11.2022 - 1:2; w:l Had a good first match against Gitrog and then I faced RDW and Tivit. Against RDW I had a hard time figuring out how to play correctly, against Tivit I had a one slow hand and the other started good with T2 Liliana, ticking all the way up to ultimate, which I probably miss-played, leaving my opponent with 3 mana Teferi, Spellseeker and 1 land. he proceeded to drop a land every turn after that and managed to get to 6 mana fairly quickly and I had no followup after that.

22.11.2022 - 0:3; w:l Nothing much to comment. Together with a few other playtests, the deck just doesn't do anything for the first few turns and then it's usually too late once we get an engine going and start cycling the ETB effects. I'm currently thinking of a different approach to this altogether...

Deck discussion for [EDH]Karador, value chieftain

Altar of dementia, undercity informer, reveillark, karmic guide... A friend of mine runs a karador commander, it's dirty.

The most problematic question with all the EDH decks. What to cut? :D
I do own both Reveillark and Karmic guide, but I didn't want to overcrowd the deck with reanimation spells.

The informer looks like it could replace world shaper. With 4 mana, he is able to mill instantly, doesn't need to wait a turn to attack.

I see... well, world shaper is really good, keep him, he'll be able to end mana limitation fast... but only if you mill enough.
Hermit Druid may help you too.

I suggested karmic guide and reveillark because of the white color on your deck, it's there and would be good to be used afterall there is selfmill.

Other things with dredge maybe help you.
Stinkweed imp, golgari gravetroll, golgari thug and necroplasm (Really good for wiping boards full of tokens) will help.

However, there's 3 colors, you can make it almost unbeatable in various ways.
If you can, keep this list updated, I would like to see it

I will. We play regularly on tuesdays, but it might be a bit weaker with Christmas coming around. I usualy stick with a deck for several months, trying to tune it, until I get bored of it and play something else.

So far, I decided to ditch the token theme a bit and go heavy on the ETB triggers and direct damage. I will post some more updates to it after Christmass.
