Black discard lockdown

by Jessie on 03 November 2013

Main Deck (60 cards)

Creatures (4)

Artifacts (6)

Land (22)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Lock down!
1.Play a discard spell every turn (24 discard spells and 4 discard enchantments).
2.Use a low mana curve and speed to run myself and opponent out of cards.
3.Lock down the game with Ensnaring Bridge (with opponent having no cards-top decking, his creatures can not attack).
4. Cause major damage through Nihil Stone (use the 24 discard cards to trigger the Nihil Stone effect).

Rate and give me feed back to this deck and I will do the same for any of your decks.

How to Play

Run my opponent and myself out of cards. With Ensnaring Bridge out my opponent can not attack me if I do not have any cards in hand.

Bottomless pit helps me keep no cards in my hand (for the Ensnaring Bridge).

Powerhouse is Guiltfeeder. Very easy for him to be have a power of 10 or more by turn 5.

The Nihil stone takes 5 life from my opponent every turn.

Deck discussion for Black discard lockdown

I dont know if your looking for speed but I would reccomend using distress instead of duress. because then you can get ride of any nonland card. try ravenouse rats for a couple gamea. they might help.

This deck is very deadly. Very deceptive.
Very easy for Guiltfeeder to be a 12/4 or 13/4 or higher.
Very easy for the Nihil Stone to cause 5 damage a turn to opponent.
Ensnaring bridge is very aggravating to play against. When you empty your own hand and their hand by turn 3, they can not attack you.
When I play against this deck, I usually lose 4 out of 5 games.

if you have the money, thoughtsieze or inquisition of kozilek would be nice. also, i think have a few dark rituals or smallpoxes floating around in there would be nice

My only complaint is Ensnaring Bridge. These types of decks are made to have the opponent discard, then use either creatures or Enchantments/Artifacts to attack the lifepoints.

Eridian22, the Ensnaring Bridge is the powerhouse in this deck.

Yeah, until they Bonfire you because you wasted your discard spell on yourself.

True that. Fast burn is one of the enemies of this deck. You are very right. However, by turn 3 I am usually out of cards or down to 1 or 2 cards in my hand without even having to play any spells on myself.

Ah, yeah. Good deck nonetheless.

Added Delirium Skeins. Each player discards 3 cards. Also, Bottomless Pit makes me discard a card every turn. Plus Chains of Smog...lots of players, when I cast the card and make them discard 2 cards...they choose to shoot it back at me causing me to discard 2 cards. So, it is very easy for me to be out of cards by turn 4 (without wasting spells on myself), and when Ensnaring Bridge is out none of my opponent's can not attack me.

But, you are right, and I can tell that you know your stuff Eridian22. A major weakness in this deck is direct burn.
A really decent burn deck will kill me most of the time. But almost every single deck in Magic history has another deck that can beat it. Every deck is weak against some other deck.

However, don't sell the Ensnaring Bridge idea short. It does work. Especially if a player is not playing any artifact removal (again, a quick red burn deck will be running artifact destruction). Ensnaring Bridge is one of the top voted Artifacts in Magic. Was trying to put it in use, correctly. And was putting a spin on discard idea. Making myself discard cards to my advantage...it is a neat idea.

And look at the Guiltfeeder. His power is 0. So he can attack regardless of if I have the Bridge out or not. My creature can attack but my opponent's creatures can not attack. I make my opponent have 10 or 12 cards in their graveyard. So the Guiltfeeder is still a 0/4 but if he is unblocked it causes 10 or 12 points of damage.

Ohhh. To be seriously honest, I have a super bad tendency of skimming over cards and not fully reading them. I thought Smog Chain was just target player discards two. Ignore me.

If we are discarding our own cards, Big Game Hunter and Gorgon Recluse might be something to look at.
Once they don't have any cards in hand, Nezumi Shortfang helps you bring on the pain. The Rack does the same but you can't attack with him.

Considering I have over 100 decks posted on here...and this Black Discard deck is one of the top 5 best, it has been too long since anyone has commented on this deck.

Not to brag, but do a few Draw Sample Hands...and play a few games against other decks.

This deck rocks.
