Deck Description

A deck that tries to win with Blazing Effigy.

Doing a quick Deck Search for decks with Effigy shows not a single deck, with Blazing Effigy, that has any likes.

I am trying to change that.

This is very much a Johnny Casual deck.

Looking for a 5th or 6th turn win.

How to Play

Idea is to have, in play:

1) Several creatures on the board and at least one Blazing Effigy.
2) Furnace of Rath (doubles damage).
3) Mirrorweave (makes opponent's creatures Blazing Effigies).
4) Stuffy Doll (you are going to target the Effigy damage to Stuffy Doll) OR Mogg Fanatic.

Now, either block and kill Blazing Effigy OR Lighting Bolt and kill Blazing Effigy.
What happens is a Chain Reaction starts, doing massive damage to the opponent via Stuffy Doll OR Mogg Maniac. Once the first Effigy dies you target another Effigy which dies and targets another Effigy which dies and targets another Effigy...each time causing more and more damage.

Here is the Math, involved:

Kill the first Blazing Effigy.
So 3 * 2 = 6 damage to the second one, which deals (3 + 6) * 2 = 18 damage to the third one, which deals (3 + 18) * 2 = 42 to the fourth one, which deals (3 + 42) * 2 = 90 damage to a Stuffy Doll, which deals 90 * 2 = 180 damage to your opponent.

Good Game.

*********************************************************************************

How do I get 4 Blazing Effigy in play?
Mirrorweave making opponent's creatures count as Blazing Effigy creatures. So, basically, you are using opponent's creatures against him. Sack your 1 Blazing Effigy and then you can target your opponent's creatures.

How is it 180 damage?
Furnace of Rath doubles the damage every creature.

How does the first Blazing Effigy die?
By either a Lighting Bolt OR blocking one of your opponent's creatures.

How do I get Furnace of Rath and Stuffy Doll in play?
Enlightened Tutor

How do I get my combo off?
Pact of Negation and Mana Tithe will prevent my opponent from disrupting my Combo.

Why Mogg Maniac?
Because you can direct your Chain of Effigies to Mogg Maniac, which redirects the damage to your opponent!

Example. Have Furnace of Rath in play and Mogg Maniac and 3 Blazing Effigies.
1st Effigy dies does 3 damage to the second Effigy which does 6 to the second Effigy which does 18 damage to the third Effigy which deals 18 damage to Mogg Maniac, which does 36 damage to your opponent.

Deck discussion for Blazing Effigy and Stuffy Doll

Something like this:

Turn 1. Shield Sphere
Turn 2. Blazing Effigy (opponent plays 1 creature)
Turn 3. Mogg Maniac (opponent plays 1 creature)
Turn 4. Furnace of Rath
Turn 5. Stuffy Doll
Turn 6. Mirrorweave and Lighting Bolt to your Blazing Effigy. Play Pact of Negation and/or Mana Tithe if your opponent tries to disrupt you.

Result. Your first Blazing Effigy dies, which targets your Shield Sphere (which is considered a Blazing Effigy), which targets your opponent's 1st creature (which is considered a Blazing Effigy), which targets opponent's 2nd creature (which is considered a Blazing Effigy), which targets your Stuffy Doll which targets your opponent.

Outcome = 180 damage to your opponent.

Good game.

Yes, naysayers and Spike players, this is a one trick pony deck. Isn't going to work most times.
When it does, it will leave your opponent slack jawed, though!

Or.

Turn 1. Shield Sphere
Turn 2. Blazing Effigy
Turn 3. Mogg Maniac
Turn 4. 2 Blazing Effigy
Turn 5. Furnace of Rath and Lightning Bolt to the 1st Blazing Effigy. Play Pact of Negation to prevent disruption.

End Result. Sack the 3 Blazing Effigies to each other into a Mogg Maniac which does 36 damage to the opponent.

Good game.

You have my like!! Kinda wish you had cathedral membrane in here though. Makes for a great blocker until the combo is set up

I can sub the Shield Sphere for it?
I thought the Sphere being free...and 6 defense, would be great for blocking.
But Cathedral Membrane was the agreed card.
Done :)

Have you thought about Boros Reckoner at all. Another thing that just simply throws damage done to itself at things. Also tossing a Pariah on a Stuffy Doll means the now need to find an immediate answer. Inquisitor's Flail is also fun to put on your damage throwers. If they would take 3, they'll take 6 and throw 12.

Plenty of times my opponent has held back their 13/13 without trample because the reckoner was standing there in the way.

Super cool deck, i love using blazing effigy with mirrorweave, to make a field of them and just burn someone out with a mogg or the doll. A card like Infinite Reflection comes to mind, as you could do some crazy things with it, but it would turn cards like mogg maniac and stuffy doll into effigies. If you have time could you check out this new combo deck i made. :)

Hey Jessie, I can't find anywhere to send you a message so I guess I'll just leave you a comment and hope you get it. I need some help forming a standard deck I want to play around with. I have some of the base figured out I think, but I'm stuck on what to do for other things. The idea was originally to go no creatures but not sure if it will work. It's currently unlisted but I'll leave a link for it. If you or any of your friends that know standard well could take a look and give me suggestions on where to go from where I am, that'd be great. I'll leave some info in the description for you guys. Thanks!

Northy may be able to help.
I don't play Standard or know hardly any of the cards.
I would not be a big help.

Oh yeah, good old Blazing Effigy! Here some oldschool advice for this oldschool device^^ :

Pyroclasm isn't sufficient to kill an Effigy but Chain Lightning does. Chain Lightning fits your deck more than you think. For one it should be in there thematically, secondly, if you Chain Lightning your own creature (doesn't matter if Effigy, Maniac or Stuffy Doll) then you control the traget, so YOU are the one who can pay RR to bounce it to yet another target! Muahaha, one of my favourite tricks with Chain Lightning was killing my own Rukh Eggs with it.

The Rukh Egg I just mentioned might fit here as well - or maybe not. But talking of it, one my other great tricks with Eggs and Effigies was to attack with them and then cast Blood Frenzy on them! 4 damage for 2 mana (8 with Furnace) and then the creature goes pop! The better part: if used on your Stuffy Doll, it will survive! The best part: If used on your opponent's creature that you block with your Stuffy Doll, it will deal 4 more damage to that opponent AND kill the attacking creature :)
Please hand me the mad genius crown now, I want to equip it.

EDIT:
Oh and maybe Orim's Thunder instead of Oblivion Ring! Why? Well, it can also be used to kill your own Effigy or to deal extra damage to your opponent (by dealing the damage to a Doll). But more importantly: You can always use it to kill your own Furnace in a pinch (for example when the opponent is going to deal too much damage). And remember: If there is nothing else you can target, you can always hit your won Stuffy Doll with it - it won't die but still deals 5 damage!
NOW give me that fucking Crown :D

There is something oddly satisfying about attacking yourself instead of the enemy. +1
