Deck Description

Ugh. Faeries...for rich spoiled college kids. Expensive ass cards! Bitterblossom and Jace and Vendilion Clique!! Faerie decks are built around being a prick and using Flash and running heavy with Counterspells and disruption.

Idea of a Faerie deck is tricks. Making your opponent be scared to even try to cast a spell.

Flash, flash, flash. Play your Island, on your turn, then give your turn over to your Opponent. On HIS TURN is when you play most of your creatures and counterspells, neat, huh?

In other words, if you are playing anything besides Index, Cloud of Faeries, and Faerie Conclove...you are playing the deck wrong if you are playing any cards on your turn.

How to Play

No joke, this deck is going to be aggravating to play against. Faeries have Flash. Creatures that can be cast anytime. They are pretty much like an Instant. What makes faeries so freaking tricky is that they usually have some sort of triggered ability when they come into play. Plus, since you cast them at the end of your opponent's turn, your opponent has less opportunity to destroy your creature.

Here is how you play.
Turn 1. Play Island and Index if you drew it.
Turn 2. Play Cloud of Faeries first, if you drew it. Then finish your turn. Now on your opponent's second turn play Counterspell/Arcane Denial/ or Spellstutter Sprite if you play Cloud of Faeries.
Turn 3. Play Island and do nothing. Now on your opponent's third turn play Scion of Oona for surprise defensive blockers OR Spellstrutter/Counterspell/Arcane Denial for a counterspell OR Vendilion Clique for a creature with a built in Thoughtseize to disrupt your opponent.
Turn 4. Play Island and do nothing. During your opponent's forth turn play Mistbind Clique and wreck their mana base OR continue to play your Counterspell cards.
Also, on Turn 4 is when Turnabout comes into play. Turnabout can almost do anything!! I can choose to tap all of my opponent's creatures to block them, or can choose to untap all of my creatures for blocking power. Or I can tap all of their lands to wreck their mana base, or i can untap all of my lands for extra mana. Lots of options.
Turn 5. Continue to draw lands and do nothing besides attack and pass your turn over to your opponent. During his turn continue to Flash creatures and counterspell his spells.

Deck discussion for Creature Challenge #9 Faeries

I played against a very similar faerie deck a little while back, you bet it's aggravating :p At first you think, bah, faeries, meet my mono red creature heavy aggro deck. Then, faeries happen :p

Fun deck!!!

Fun to play with...but aggravating to play against.I hate Blue Control in Magic. Always have. Who wants to make a great deck, take weeks to do so, then play against a deck with nothing but Counterspells and Bounce spells. It sucks!!!

But, sadly enough, I think this Faerie deck will be in the top 3 out of 12 decks in the Tourney.

Thanks for the like!

This is nasty. I love it.
Maybe Preordain over Index?

I can't do it NorthernWarlord. I have a weekly debate with my friend about Index sucking. And Preordain being better. Ponder and Brainstorm also being better.

I just really, really love Index. Love it. It was one of the first old cards to show the true potential of what Magic was about to become.

And you are right...I think this deck is going to be brutal. Might be the best deck of the 12 in the Creature Challenge tourney.

I just love Index because looking at top 4 cards of library is super, super deep searching. Out of 4 cards you are almost rest assured you will get a good card. With something like Gitaxian Probe...you might draw top card and the top card might be absolute crap.

Ohh, then I completely understand.
There are many cards that I LOVE too, like Disperse and Greatsword (Yeup. I love the Greatsword, even though it sucks. I used to run a whole PLAYSET in my zombie deck...).
Though everybody always asks me to change them to something better, like Into the Roil or Vulshok Battlegear. And I don't want to disappoint people, so I always make the changes...

You are badass person, Jessie. I like the way you think. More people should put emotions in front of efficiency.
Keep going. YOU ROCK.

It's really a shame that you're trying to keep this relatively budget, because you clearly have a grasp on how Tempo is supposed to be played. I think this deck could do amazing things if it went black/blue and had a few tweaks. To be honest I don't even know if Bitterblossom is necessary...Of course it's amazing for any faerie tempo, but if you don't like it for budget reasons, then you can leave it out.

Oona's Blackgaurd, with a few adjustments and a few other black faeries, spells, etc. would do some serious damage.

Now, if you want to keep the deck mono-blue...I don't know how much it costs, but Sower of Temptation is one of my favorite faeries. Also, Glen Alandra Pranksters are, I know for a fact, very budget and do amazing things for various combat tricks. For one thing, you can get back your Spellstutters.

Hope that helps =]

If i were to add Sower of Temptation or Glen Alandra Pranksters to my deck...what would you suggest I take out?

Looked up "Tempo" in Magic...you nailed it on the head, I think over the last year...getting back into Magic...my Tempo has improved the most. I think I need to work on being versatile and consistent and trying to work on having alternate win conditions in my decks.

Again, what is High Tide doing in this? You *could* produce lots of mana on turn 3+ if combined with Cloud of Faeries and Turnabouts, but I don't see a single card where to dump that mana on. You are talking about Jace and Bitterblossom in the description but I can't see those anywhere, so I guess High Tide was part of an earlier built.

Fearie Imposter would combo well with half of your other creatures. So are Glen Elendra Pranksters, but they are quite pricy.

Arcane Denial is a bad counterspell, it's actually card disadvanatge. Use either Mana Leak or Dissolve instead.

Personally I would use Brainstorm or Portent/Ponder over Index. (since you have lots of instants and flash creatures, it doesn't matter much that you get the Portent card during your opponent's turn. But in opposite to Ponder, you can use Porten on your opponent, so I really think Portent is better in this than Ponder)

Changes made...not sure why i had the Arcane Denial in the deck, lol.
Portent looks nice.

Added Imposter. I see where it would be nice.

He is a damned champ. He came back from surgery smiling/laughing.
When i was his age...i remember tubes in the ear as being traumatic. Bleeding out of my ears. Throwing up. Crying. Feeling sick.
Times and technology has changed.

Thanks SpliNter and NorthernWarlord.
