Self Mill. Yeah, it Works!

by Jessie on 18 September 2014

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Sorceries (4)

Instants (7)

Artifacts (4)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Deck that mills itself to pump up Atog/Slag Fiend.

Idea is to keep drawing cards and putting them into your graveyard.
More Artifacts in your graveyard, the more dangerous and powerful Slag Fiend becomes.

We are aiming for 9/10 Atogs and 10/10 Slag Fiends.
But it is possible to get a 16/16 or higher Slag Fiend!

I am aiming for Turn 3 and Turn 4 wins for around 30 dollars.

How to Play

Runs 20 Artifacts to put into the graveyard to power up Slag Fiend.
And 20 Artifacts that can be sacked to power up Atog.
4 Lands are Artifacts which can also be sacked.

Double Cleave and Panic Spellbomb to make sure massive damage gets through to my opponent.

Burning Inquiry and Faithless Looting to put Artifacts into the graveyard.

Urza's Bauble and Mishra's Bauble to draw cards.
Pyrite Spellbomb and Panic Spellbomb to draw cards.

Lotus Petal for mana ramp and to feed your graveyard with another Artifact.
Shrapnel Blast/Ornithopter is going to give your opponent 5 damage and power up Slag Fiend.

All of the Artifacts can be sacked to draw you cards/give you mana AND they can also be sacked to power up Atog!

Deck discussion for Self Mill. Yeah, it Works!

Now this is a nice little deck. I love the synergy and is going to be very powerful as long as you can protect the Slag Fiend. Only additions I would think would be Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots (so you can target him with the double cleave) and maybe Perilous Myr. Well done sir.

If you allow me to suggest card to your sideboard, Fatal Frenzy could be a good choice.
Otherwise:

*Sees a 1/2 Atog attacking*
Aww, who is a cute little monster? Who is a cute little monster? You are! Yes! You are!
*suddenly Atog devours 5 artifacts and gets hit by Double Cleave*
FFFFFFFFFFFFFF...

Whoah! Typing all that must have taken its time.
Looks good though. I have that weird feeling with this deck that I might even create it in real life...
Choices, choices...

Yep, just take out the Lotus Petal and add in Ornithopter! :)
Under 20 dollars!

And Ornithopter can be sacked to Shrapnel Blast for 5 damage and to put another artifact into the graveyard (giving Slag Fiend +1/+1).

I am sorta of leanin toward taking out Lotus Petal anyways. It makes the deck Vintage illegal and since all of my cards are 2 mana or less...I kinda don't need the mana ramp anyways.

You could use Codex Shredder/Ghoulcaller's Bell on yourself instead of the Lotus Petals.

Possibly...it seems very slow, but steady. 1 card a turn.
I think this deck is aiming to try to go as fast as possible.

It is a good suggestion though!
Might try it with a green mill deck.

4 Disciple of the Vault (2nd Win Condition)
4 Ornithopter

3 Scrapyard Salvo
3 Lotus Petal
4 Mishra's Bauble
4 Burning Inquiry

11 Swamp
11 Mountain

Crap...Artifact lands...how did i miss those!!! Need those too.
Putting Great Furnace in the red deck right now!

It's too bad you don't splash Black. Disciple of the Vault would be a nice addition.

That is a nasty card! It is banned, isn't it? Or was in Modern...I think.

You could try this:
Run Mind Funeral. Very, very little lands.
Self mill yourself that way.
That is a way black would work!
Lots of Artifacts for Disciple of the Vault.

Maybe...maybe not. That might be two different decks. Mind Funeral self mill deck and a Disciple of the Vault/Artifacts/Slag Fiend deck.

Hey Northy, I suck at aggro and I suck at playing White...therefore, I want to make a White Aggro deck.
Any advice? I know I have heard people brag about your white human decks.

With my decks...i tend to make them midrange...almost everytime.

I start with "aggro" in mind or i start with "control" in mind...and my decks always seem to have a mixture. Mostly it is because, midway through the decks...i start to think, "But what if my opponent plays x card, or that card," and then i start to add cards like removal/bounce/safety cards.

Same thing with aggro...i start in mind "super aggro" and then halfway through I start throwing in cards that gain life, cards that stop combos, cards that kill other creatures...etc...I am too fixed on making all around decent decks. And stuff like aggro seems like it has to be all or nothing.

Are you sure you want to stay in Legacy just for those 3 cards? They can be replaced by a lot of sacrifice-and-draw-low-cost artifacts, like Chromatic Sphere, Chromatic Star. Also Ichor Wellspring is even better than the cards you have put, because you draw when it comes into play and you draw when it's sacrified. Also you can replace the Great Furnaces with Darksteel Citadel, no problem for the colored mana because you can transform the colorless mana into colored with 8x Chromatic Sphere, Chromatic Star. P.S. You can also consider adding a couple of Apostle's Blessings... you really freak out when you have your 16/16 Atog and he gets Path of Exiled...

After trying this I can say it doesn't work. With these few creatures you get an average of two creatures per game. A couple of anti creature and you are over.
