Deck discussion for Shattergang EDH

I know u love your creature, enchantment, artifact hate so I see you liking that commander but it only works if you sac your own stuff. if you really want those colors you could run dariagaz, the igniter. remember in commander 21 damage to a player from a commander and they lose. volrath's stronghold and strip mine are edh staples. and you can't go wrong with whip of erebos. without knowing what direction you want to go with this or what you want it to do I don't know what else to suggest

mind's eye is possibly the best edh card draw card

Thanks. Yeah, this deck is a mess. Surewhynot suggested the card...but i am awful with the idea/concept of sacking my own stuff. It is very blackish, in nature. And that is my worst color. I never even played black until trying it last year. I will keep working with it. Surewhynot put up a worthy challenge.

Thanks Vaan.

if you run it as mostly black look through my vamp edh deck it has a lot of the staples for a black edh

Was trying to run it balanced, but you are probably right. Will look at your deck tomorrow, for sure.
Sorta want to go on a deck making hiatus for awhile. Got to get this EDH deck out of the way, though.

Well, you're on the right track. I'd have personally gone with a more control-heavy design, but everyone is different =]

You might want to try out a Stax package...Also don't forget my beloved Bloodghast would work wonders here.

You need about 6 or 7 more lands in this sucker at least.

Oh, and Whip of Erebos would be good to give you a nice life buffer in case you go a little overboard with sacking stuff. Plus it will let you stretch out the uses of your creatures for some extra sacs.

Awesome, thank you! :) Sorry i get so ranty/scruby/opinionated sometimes. I get worked up too much. It gets me downvoted, more often than not.

Stax package? Please explain?

What lands might you suggest?

You just got a lot of energy. I get it. I was a lot like you when I was younger.

Stax is the use of mana denial, often through the use of multi-layered control, with Smokestack (stacks or Stax) at the heart of the whole thing.

http://www.mtgvault.com/quasimofo/stax/

My buddy Arty is an expert in all things control, but Stax/Stox (Stax with Pox) is one of his specialties. If you're gonna ask him for advice though...keep the ranting to a minimum. Those British, they're not fans of ranting =P

As for the lands...Shatterbang Bros. have three useful abilities, but their first one is arguably the most useful. Since it needs black mana, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would be sexy in here. Then of course, if you're running Urborg, Cabal Coffers goes beautifully to provide a ton of black mana.

There's also a few recursive lands. Buried ruin gets back artifacts, Volrath's Stronghold snags creatures...

Of course there's also just basic lands. You can never go wrong with basic lands.

crypt of agadeem is another good land

What would be some cards to take out, then?
I am really struggling with this one.

I wouldn't use exhume

Made a few changes. Added in the suggested lands and draw card, removed some basic lands and exhume.

maybe drop chain lightning for bonfire of the damned and u could drop a few of your 0 cost artifact creatures to get an alloy myr and opaline unicorn to help mana fix

I will drop chain/add bonfire. I want to keep the free artifact creatures though. Idea is to have free creatures to play off of Shatterbang. But you are probably right about mana fix...i am relying heavy on bop, sylvan caryatid, and crop rotation.

Chromatic Lantern is the best option if you're looking to mana fix.

All your creatures fit ... nice work, friend.

Too bad your commander is not white. Then you could have requiem angel and doomed traveller shenanigans.

I want to try Angus Mackenzie.
He is much more up my style. The return/graveyard stuff of Shattergang isn't my strong point.

Angus is now in the top 5 most expensive creature cards in Magic, now. All because of Commander becoming popular in Mtg, I would bet!

I noticed a pattern in your decks, that you dislike sacrifice and graveyard mechanics. That's why I had you do this challenge too. When I see deck builders with a lot of potential, I like to nudge them a little in directions that they wouldn't normally want to take. Making you build something you're not as comfortable building will, in the long run, make you a better builder.

Angus is a great and popular commander, so that is one reason why he's so expensive. The other is that he's from a very old set, so there's just not that many Angus's around anymore. Rarity bumps up prices too.

This is looking pretty good now. Though I must say I've never liked Boneyard Wurm. I've often found that by the time you're able to play it as more than a dead draw, you could have played something much better.

Also, I would replace your Penumbra Wurm with Simbiotic Wurm or even better, Pentavus.

Tricky scoundrel! I do see your point. If I hate to build certain types of decks, and build them, I can get to learn better how they work and thus be able to build decks that can beat them.

I will make the changes, you suggested.

Hmm ... so you're saying I should make a sacrifice Orhov EDH deck and Gruul/Selesnya two-headed giant deck(s). Guess what I don't like. :)

Konda's Hound dog should be going up in price, too.

I think Shattergang Bros would benefit from having a few mana rocks. There are 5 that enter untapped, then 4 that enter tapped that should all be okay. 3 Signets, 2 Talisman, 3 Diamonds, and Coldsteel Heart. The Myr that make mana could be better than some of your mana dorks because they're artifacts and creatures (you'll have choices). So add whatever amount of those you want to , be it 0 or 12.

I don't like Fortitude and Lightning Bolt in here. I think they could be Eternal Witness and Maelstrom Pulse.
