Deck Description

"Just the place to take a Picnic."
Cemetery Gate

*********************************************************************************

Your 2 Win Conditions:
1) Pestilence
2) Crusading Knight

*********************************************************************************

Pretty basic Black/White Pestilence deck.
Based around 2 concepts:
1) Turning your opponent's lands into Swamps and killing them!
2) Damage your opponent through Pestilence and creatures that have protection from it's nasty effects.

You are playing as many cards as possible to make sure that Pestilence hurts only your opponent, not yourself. Leonin Sun Standard, Pariah, Runed Halo, Zealous Persecution, Cemetery Gate, Crusading Knight, and Wall of Hope all helps protect you from Pestilence.

*********************************************************************************

Note on how to play Kormus Bell, properly:
If you tap out your mana playing Kormus Bell, your opponent can play something like Pyroclasm, and give you a bad day!
You must play it and immediately use Zealous Persecution/Pestilence/Leonin Sun Standard so that your lands are safe, but your opponent's are put into the graveyard.

*********************************************************************************

Note on Sideboard:
Those cards are for consideration in the main deck.
Still trying to work out the finer details of the deck.

How to Play

1) Turning your opponent's lands into Swamps and killing them:
Step 1. Play Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Now your opponent's lands are considered Swamps.
Step 2. Play Kormus Bell. Now all Swamps are 1/1 creatures.
Step 3. Play Zealous Persecution!

Their lands can be nuked through Pestilence too! Just make sure to pump up your creatures/lands first with Leonin Sun Standard so that they live.

*********************************************************************************

2) Damage your opponent through Pestilence and creatures that have protection from it's nasty effects.
Step 1. Throw down 1 or 2 of your creatures.
Step 2. Play Pestilence.
Step 3. Pump mana into Pestilence to control the board, and kill your opponent's creatures. Your creatures, most of them, will stay alive, due to protection from black.

*********************************************************************************

Kormus Bell. Turns Swamps into 1/1 creatures. Simply kill all of your opponent's lands with Pestilence or Zealous Persecution!

Leonin Sun Standard. It pumps up your creatures. Pumps them up to attack opponent. Pumps them up, also, so that they survive Pestilence. It also protects your lands once Kormus Bell is in play.

Cemetery Gate. Staying around power. He chump blocks. Put Pariah on him and do damage to him with Pestilence, making Pestilence not deal any damage to you.

Crusading Knight. Pure strength. With Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in play, he will easily become 6/6 7/7 8/8 or higher. Once Pestilence clears the board of your opponent's creatures, Knight is going to attack your opponent unblocked. Evil.

Wall of Hope. Turn 1. Plains. Into a Wall of Hope. Yep. He is the first turn drop that you will want to play. He slows down aggro decks. He gains you life. Deal damage to Wall of Hope with Pestilence, to watch your opponent get mad!

Pariah. Urza Saga cards rock, fyi. Him and Pestilence goes together like rice and gravy. Pop Pariah on on Cemetary Gate, and pump up Pestilence. What happens is that you do not take personal damage from Pestilence. Pop Pariah on Wall of Hope to gain life every turn. Pop Pariah on your opponent's creatures and pump up Pestilence. Your opponent is going to take extra damage.

Pestilence. Your win card. 2 colorless and 2 black mana to cast. For 1 black mana it does 1 damage to each creature and each player. Pay 2 black mana to do 2 damage. 3 black mana to do 3 damage to everything. There is several cards in the deck, as described, that protect you from Pestilence. Pestilence/Kormus Bell is a black Armageddon.

Runed Halo. It comes into play, you can simply name "Pestilence" and you will no longer take personal damage from pumping up Pestilence. Or...if you already have a card, in play, that protects you from Pestilence, Runed Halo can be used to protect you from any card that is a major threat, that your opponent has on the board.

Enlightened Tutor. Wow, don't you wish Tutors were cheaper in price?! He fetches you 15 different cards in the deck, for 1 mana. He helps combo decks in that he finds the missing pieces of the combo for you. If you do not have Pestilence in your hand/on the board, of course, it is going to be the card you fetch.

Zealous Persecution. Probably the meanest card in this deck, outside of Pestilence. Zealous Persecution + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Kormus Bell = Board Swipe. Even if not used in a combo, he can nuke Goblin and Elf decks. He slows down the opponent, either way.

Night's Whisper. Draw. Always need draw. Not the most powerful spell in the game, but it is decent enough to keep cards in your hand.

Tainted Field. Works amazing with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Dual lands, while expensive, are necessary in multicolored decks.

Deck discussion for The Nightmare of Others

Looking at this it occurs to me that both Wicked and Nantuko both need to be unblockable to do their best work.
Ahh...waitadangminnit,,,,I see it now. You are considering a Filthy Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth combo.
Kormos Bell and Pestilence is just Mean....I like it.

As for pestilence.... White Knight, Dawn Elemental, Melesse Spirit, Akroma (the white one) etc. Protection from black types.
Full set of Sun droplet. Multiples in play let you gain life from pestilence.
Wall of Resistance. It feeds on pestilence like fly larvae on jungle rot between the toes of soldiers in Vietnam... um...too much?

You are right though. You have 2 decks here. Pestilence and Swampwalk. Kormos bell ties them together, but Wicked and Nantuko are anxiously tugging the coach's sleeve and asking when they get to play.

I like the initial thought!
Good deal.

Revamped it. Made it a Pestilence deck, of course.
Wicked and Nantuko are going to be in another deck.

And for you combo lovers.
Check this example out in a multiplayer game.

There are 3 opponents. They each have 5 lands each.
They have taken their 5th turn.

You have, in play:
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers, 3 other lands, Crusading Knight, and Pestilence in play.

Questions:
1) What is Crusading Knight's power?
2) How much can damage can Pestilence do to each creature/player?

Answers:
1) 17/17
2) 20 damage

Both Crusading Knight and Pestilence offers two different ways to do massive damage!

That is truly inspired!
I am very impressed! Crusading Knight with Urborg is fantastic!
Of course, once Kormus and Pestilence make an appearance than CK goes back to normal.
How about a Karmic Guide or two to bring back a crusading knight? It also has Protection from Black.

I cant't get over how well thought out this is. From Runed Halo to Zealous Persecution. Your selections have varied and extremely effective (read dangerous) interactions.

Best damn pestilence deck I've seen.
Like +1
and proudly.

Now....about that Nantuko Shade and Wicked Akuba.....

P.S.
Im working on Lure Infiltrator now.
Will post link here.

Excelsior!
