In all honesty Ember Swallower and the hammer are just bad cards. Hanweir Garrison would be better then the swallower since it works so well with Purphoros . Adding 2 more land would be a better idea then the hammer. Hanweir Battlement would be a good choice if you did choose to play the Garrison

the hammer is an alternate thing i can do if i really need it and that and swallower up my devotion for when i drop mogis. the Hanweir Garrison is good but i think i would replace the hammer if i did but not swallower. what are some other cards that would fit? i just like the double red they give me
I think War Elemental could work in this build. It has great devotion and if you have Purphoros in play when you cast it. You layer the triggers so purphoros deals damage allowing you to keep the Elemental and it gets 2 counters right away. I still really must insist that Ember Swallower is a bad card. It's just a 4/5 for 4 mana (not that great). The monstrous effect really isn't a big deal at that point in the game. at the point you do it you should be closing out the game. Koth of the Hammer is really good and if budget allows Chandra, Torch of Defiance is amazing.
thanks for all the advice dude! ill check those out and see how it plays out. so far this build has treated me well even in modern. Its just been something people havent been expecting i guess. but the main win con for this is dropping fanatic of mogis to close the game out. Honestly didnt even think about planeswalkers though haha. again thanks!
i can get to monstrous pretty early with nykthos and devotion too. i feel like nykthos is under utilized.
do you have any ideas for other red one drops?
Goblin Guide is probably the best 1 drop Then Monastery Swiftspear followed by Goblin Bushwhacker. Not counting Legion Loyalist as second best since you're already playing it.
