This is meant to keep lands flowing in to activate a large number of lands coming into play. You can use amulet of vigor to go from Khalni Heart to Explore in the same turn to get about 4 lands in one turn for Ob Nixilis. That gives him 12 +1/+1 counters at the cost of 12 of the opponent's life.
