Deck Description

Just imagine it: you're taking a dip in the local lake, enjoying the cool water on a hot day, when something resembling a bluish, Jello Creature From The Black Lagooon emerges from the water and walks ashore. It takes a look around, shakes itself dry, and then sprouts wings and buzzes into the sky and out of sight.

No, it's not an April Fools' Day joke...the joke is instead on your opponent as a swarm of flying pests overwhelms them. They refuse to be swatted aside and instead swat aside the opponent's spells and creatures thrown their way!

How to Play

This is the fourth and last of a short series of decks focused on Changelings. These memorable creatures from Lorwyn are typically used to bolster other races in Magic...tribes that need a few more creatures to fill in the gaps. But since they count as ALL creature types, why not instead make the Changelings themselves the focus and splash in some cards from multiple tribes that all boost those Changelings?

For blue, I bet the first tribe that comes to mind is Merfolk. And yep, they make a splash (see what I did there? ;-P ) in this deck. Merrow Commerce basically gives out mass vigilance, and the sideboard can basically let you turn your Changeling army into an islandwalking force to be reckoned with thanks to Master of the Pearl Trident, Aquitect's Will, and Merrow Reejerey.

But the biggest tribal contributor here is actually Faeries. Scion of Oona is a fantastic, flashable "lord" for your small, low-power Changelings, and Spellstutter Sprite can counter almost anything considering how many low-cost "Changelings" you could have in play early on.

There's a little love for Wizards (the tribe, not the company) here as well. Stream of Unconsciousness can slow down problem creatures and give your weaker ones a leg up, and the card draw plays right into Diviner's Wand (yep, Changelings can do a good Gandalf impression too).

Speaking of card draw, check out Mass Appeal. Yeah, that's potentially a lot!

And the last tribe-ish card is a big one: Whelming Wave unfortunately takes your Faeries down with it, but your Changelings all get to wave to your opponent's creatures as they go back to their owner's hand. And hey, returning Spellstutter Sprite to use it as a counter again later isn't so bad after all!
