Deck Description

The best of the best heroic creatures and enablers from the full Theros block... but wait, Ethereal Armor is the only enchantment? What gives?

How to Play

The main issue I've run into when trying to get heroic going is that it's just so hard to keep that one aura-loaded creature alive. You can load the deck with all manner of protection, but it just doesn't seem to matter in the end. Your one big beater is lost, and you're suddenly WAY behind.

So I'm going a different route. Ethereal Armor stays, because even +1/+1 and first strike for only 1 mana is still fantastic (and any boosts beyond that is just gravy). But I will target my heroes with instants and sorceries instead...partly because Journey Into Nyx has some fantastic contributors:

- Ajani's Presence is perhaps the card this sort of strategy needed most. Gods Willing has been great protection, but can't save us against board wipe and other non-targeted removal. The quick, no-questions-asked indestructability from Presence is HUGE, and the fact that it can save multiple creatures at once lets me completely remove the Rootborn Defenses I was having to rely on before.

- Launch the Fleet is not only a great way to get in extra damage or load the board with future chump blockers, but it's also a top-notch Heroic enabler. Dauntless Onslaught has been nice for triggering two heroic creatures at once (and still makes the cut here), but for the same cost, Launch the Fleet can target three...and as many beyond that as your mana pool allows. And the combo with Favored Hoplite and his damage prevention--and the big butts of Lagonna-Band Trailblazer and Dawnbringer Charioteers--is just too hard to ignore.

I just mentioned them, but there are two great Heroic creatures from Journey Into Nyx as well. Legonna-Band Trailblazer gives us another potential one-drop Heroic creature in addition to Favored Hoplite, but is perhaps even better as one of the best 1-drop defenders ever printed. (Sorry, Yoked Ox.) And Dawnbringer Charioteers... well, he needs no introduction to anyone that played in the Journey prerelease. I know sealed/limited stardom doesn't always translate into constructed, but how can this not be an exception? Just LOOK at him!

Only other things worth mentioned are in the sideboard, where Journey Into Nyx makes a big splash as well. Tethmos High Priest almost made my mainboard (and testing may end up moving it there), because aside from the Charioteers and the Priest himself, all these heroic guys are valid targets to bring back from the dead. The versatile Banishing Light and the specific-but-awesome Deicide combine with Revoke Existence and Glare of Heresy to allow you to pull in whatever removal you may need depending on the opponent. I may eventually move some of that to the main as well...we shall see!

What do you think? I plan to playtest the heck out of this and will post some results back in a few days, but going in, anything you see I need to tweak? Any glaring omissions? Your comments and feedback would be most appreciated...thanks!
