Deck Description

White Human tokens from Gather the Townsfolk and Thraben Doomsayer feed this Orzhov machine. Champion of the Parish gets huge when they enter play, then Ravenous Demon gulps them up and Falkenrath Torturer and Cartel Aristocrat feed off the scraps. Yum!

How to Play

Sacrificing is the primary strategy here. Increasingly popular Cartel Aristocrat can sac others to become an unblockable menace or an everlasting chump blocker. Increasingly overlooked Falkenrath Torturer can sac others to gain flying, and gets bigger if those sacced are Human. And Ravenous Demon's use is obvious.

As you sac, you can do other fun and nasty stuff. Tragic Slip is still arguably the best kill spell in the format, especially when you can trigger it at whim. Landing Reaper from the Abyss will add to the wiping. And Skirsdag High Priest can get out of hand very, very quickly.

How do you get all those creatures to sacrifice, though? Lingering Souls is classic, but it really only works well with the Aristocrat. Similarly with Sorin; the Vampire tokens are nice, but we need HUMANS. Thankfully, Gather The Townsfolk and Thraben Doomsayer are happy to deliver. And the trick no one ever sees coming, Rootborn Defenses, can grow that army further and really twist your opponent in knots when sprung at the right time. Bonfire? Verdict? Not so fast, my friend!

Depsite all that setup, the sacrificing strategy isn't always going to fire. Thankfully there are other paths to victory. Champion of the Parish, combined with all the other Humans, can turn into a wincon by itself. Intangible Virtue can turn your token army into a major fighting force and simply overwhelm the opposition. And Sorin and Vault of the Archangel can grind things out if you get into a stalemate until you can land a brusier like one of your Demons to bust through.

The sideboard offers some alternative strategies as well. The angels offer methods to finish off longer matchups (Glory's Rise) or just go over the top, beatdown-style, in the midgame (Overseer). High Priest and Penace and extra kill spells can thin out other creature-heavy decks and give you time to build up your own unstoppable force. Orzhov Charm works there, or as a sneaky way to recoup a lost Champ or a sacced Traveler at an opportune moment.

This deck does not always fire, but when it does, it's a glorious thing to behold. And even when it doesn't, it has enough tricks to hang in there and still deliver a knockout punch.

What do YOU think? I've been dying to try this out at FNM, and I think I'm finally ready to try. Any final tips or tricks before I do?

Deck discussion for Human... Tastes Like Chicken!

It looks like you might have some trouble with super aggro, like Boros or bloodrush decks. Have you considered adding Blind Obedience to slow them down enough to get your wall of tokens? I have a similar build, focused around building tokens, and either smashing face, or sac them and kill through blood artist.
