Deck Description

All credit to Dan7themaN for the original idea with his sweet "Devotion to Rakdos" Standard deck:

I just wanted to see how you could really run with the idea if you reach back for other hybrid mana Rakdos creatures....

How to Play

Dan's original idea was to maximize the potential of both Fanatic of Mogis AND Gray Merchant of Asphodel. This deck does the same...but with a lot more oomph since we unsurprisingly have a bevy of B/R creatures in Modern that we can't reach in Standard. Besides the two Gods and our aforementioned primary wincon creatures, every single creature here has a hybrid B/R mana cost, and most contribute at least 2 black and red devotion to the cause...3 for the Ashenmoores.

Speaking of which, check out Ashenmoore Liege (and to a lesser extent, Fists of the Demigod), and then consider that almost every creature here is both black and red. Yeah...you may never even need the Fanatic or Gary. Even lowly Cackler and hasty Shred-Freak can turn into absolute monsters pretty quickly.

The one downside to this is that while the deck has some aggro potential (any deck with 4 Cacklers, 4 Shred-Freaks, and other threats like Emberstrike Duo can do that for you!), it's really a midrange deck. Dreadbore and Terminate should sufficiently deal with any early threats your opponent throws at you while you build up to a final, crushing blow down the line. If it's not quite enough, you can pull in good old Lightning Bolt from the sideboard, and other options like Fulminator Mage, Wrecking Ball, and Slaughter Games can thin out other threats you need out of the way.

What do you think? I'm really liking this hybrid mana/devotion combo idea...I just might try it with other color combos.

If you like this, go check out Dan's original deck. It looks quite fun!
