Deck Description

Goblins? But...but...I thought you were running a green deck! What is this madness?!

How to Play

This deck is part of my new "off-color" series, featuring well-known tribes from Magic's history, with a big twist: they're NOT in their traditional color.

Goblins are one of those rare tribes that make at least a splash in all five colors, but obviously they're known for being the primary red tribe in the game. But they have a surprisingly big showing in a traditionally enemy color--green--thanks to everyone's favorite tribal block: Lorwyn...or actually, Shadowmoor. Is it enough to make a whole deck, though?

I think it is...very easily, in fact. The case is greatly bolstered by Boartusk Liege, which gives all the Goblins here at least a +1/+1, and almost all of them a +2/+2 boost because the vast majority of creatures here also happen to be red AND green (thank you, R/G hybrid mana!), even though you need only green mana to play them.

Among your other Gobbos, you've got all sorts of fun abilities, with further pumping, haste, trample, and wither all making big impacts (sometimes in combination). And check out Vexing Shusher, who can make your Goblins--or any other spell--uncounterable. Take that, control!

And what sort of other spells do we have? Pumps, mostly. Green classic Giant Growth and its' red cousin Brute Force can turn any Goblin, especially one of the tramplers, into a real bruiser. And they pale in comparison to the potential of Might of the Masses and Vines of Vastwood.

For the other spells here, I cheated a little bit by requiring a little red mana. Gruul War Chant's potential was just too big to ignore (blocking becomes all but impossible), and there was no way I couldn't throw in some Goblin Grenades. ;-)

What do you think? If you like this concept, check out my other Off-Color decks, including black Humans, red Vampires, blue Zombies, and the Goblins' worst enemy--Elves--in white. (Just go into my Profile and click on the "Off-Color" tag to see the rest.)
