Deck Description

Been playing around with RDW variants lately, and I was thinking...if there's one color of the new Slivers that could potentially stand on its own, it has to be red. So here's my attempt at mono-colored Slivers.

How to Play

Striking Sliver is what really makes this even a remote possibility. Not only is it a nifty Turn 1 play, but it pairs perfectly with the otherwise-mediocre Battle Sliver. Since both that and Thorncaster are slow due to their cost, and become big fat targets as soon as your opponent is able to cast sorceries or untap to cast their instant kill spells, it's good to have Blur Sliver in there so the big boys can wade into action as soon as they enter play.

There are big holes in the middle game, though. You have to hang in there for a few turns until you can get Battle and/or Thorncaster in there and take over the battlefield. So we go full-out burn, with playsets of Shock, Searing Spear (or its eventual Theros replacement), and Mizzium Mortars. We can also bring another early creature in thanks to Mutavault, and we can boost our little Striking Slivers with Shiv's Embrace and/or Madcap Skills to make them a threat your opponent won't want to mess with in battle.

Yes, this deck is fragile. It's not nearly as fast as regular old RDW, it's very susceptible to kill spells and wipes, and would likely be best if I focused on more early drops like Ash Zealot and de-emphasized the Sliver tribe. But I wanted to at least see what I could do with the idea.

Any thoughts?
