Deck Description

First deck I have made and have yet to test it. I am open and would love some feedback and some constructive criticism. I'm going for a mill/control hybrid kind of deal. You know, because Jace is one of my favorite...gotta have him in my deck. I just got back into Magic The Gathering and looking to have some casual fun! Give me suggestions, talk shit on my choices, whatevers!... comment on my deck. oh yeah, mono blue only though.

How to Play

I have yet to play it! I'm very eager to!

Deck discussion for MILL n Bill baby $$$

Spells that only mill and nothing else is not usually something you should play unless they mill a lot, since they leave you vulnerable. Instead I would recommend adding Rune Snag and Archive Trap.
-2 Dream Twist (Does not mill enough)
-1 Traumatize (It is bad, only having one means if you get it "lategame" it might only mill ~8-10 cards for 5 mana)
-1 Increasing Confusion (Not really impressive, since it is sorcery speed)
-2 Gitaxian Probe (Sure it gives info, but don't really need it. It is better in combo decks tbh)
-4 Vapor Snag (It is pretty restrictive only targeting creatures)
-2 Mind Sculpt (It is sorcery speed, so you should not cast them before turn 4, since you need couter back-up for enemy turn)

+4 Archive Trap (Has the bonus of being free if they search their deck)
+4 Rune Snag (Better than Mana Leak after the first)
+4 Boomerang (Better than Vapor Snag)
I know it is a lot of changes, and I could go suggest even more changes, but then it would lose some flavour and uniqueness, which you obviously want too.

I think cutting Jace's Phantasm and maybe a single copy of Jace, Memory Adept for more mill. Adding a playset of Alter of the Brood acting as Hedron Crab 5-8 and one more Sands of Delerium (Mainly due to not being fond of 1-ofs).

The reasoning is this: Jace's Phantasm acts towards the wrong goal. You don't want to kill your opponent with damage, but mill. I didn't say anything before due to it being flavourful. And the 3 Jace instead of 4. You want a Jace when you can play him, and not get stuck with 2 early on in your hand. So, hence 3 instead of 4. 1 more sands is to ensure you will actually see it, and having a mana dump is always good.

Users Wicked and Funk are testing mill decks and have a lot of information. I just so happen to have a somewhat competitive mono blue mill deck on my page if interested (modern).

SHHH! Our tests are secret!

I can offer a lot of advice, but need to know the intended format and how serious juicy wants to play mill!

If it's truly casual, then I can recommend that the counterspells are exchanged with flusterstorm, and if you want to work without surgical extraction which is black, then extract is your only way to get rid of troublesome cards.

SHHH! Our tests are sort of secret, so don't mention them!

And as always, the best milling artisfact card is mesmeric orb. Mesmeric orb will work very well with dream twist and increasing confusion.

I currently use 3 chancellor of the spires, 4 mind sculpt, 4 tome scour, 2 memory sluice, 1 mesmeric orb, 2 archive trap, 4 shriekhorn and 3 hedron crab (+1 shelldock isle) + a lot of other millcards that are black. My main strategy is to mill as much as possible, using the cards in magic that mills most of all, and the numbers are pretty specialized towards not being obstructive at any part of the game.

23 millcards is an acceptable amount for a deck with stuff other than mill, so try these above cards as a starting core for your deck, then experiment as much as possible.

Funny, I think I actually met you at a modern FNM some months (6+) ago. Personally I played mono-black "mill" there for the fun of it. I haven't had time to play modern tournaments in a while though.

I only play in denmark, so if you played there odds are good enough for us to have met :D
The only person I remember recently playing mbc-mill was about a year or more ago, with 4 extirpate, 4 surgical extraction, 4 sadistic sacrament and a death's shadow combo within the deck.

That could very well have been me, if it was in Lyngby. But I think you are mixing two of my decks together there, they still include a lot of the same cards and given it was a long time ago, I think it plausible to get them mixed up.

Yup. It was in lyngby.
My "handle" wickeddarkman is wellknown in kbh which is why some call me wicked.
The time fits close to a point where I stopped playing at lyngby because a friend of mine needed to test against legacy. From there we went to test against modern, so I now have an array of testdecks to attack my mill with.
At that time my best milldeck was at it's peak. (It had no hedrons and no archive traps in main)
It's been a long travel before I started up on serious tests against my mill, but at a time I took it to a fanatic and went top 4 with it. Then I went to lyngby and got beaten because everyone knew how to play against it, so I decided to refine it in ways that would make it work even if an opponent knows the entire decklist by heart.

Here's a link to what it looks like at the moment:
