The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

There's nothing more satisfying than turn 1 Favored Hoplite, either Ordeal on turn 2, then swinging with a 3/4 that can't be damaged this turn.

Also it's a fairly cheap deck, the playset of Hallowed Fountains taking up almost 2/3 of the deck price. Feel free to substitute guild gates, although be warned that it's MUCH slower with the gates. You basically always want a turn one dude with this deck.

How to Play

This is based off of a really fun draft deck I built, where I put an Ordeal of Heliod on a Favored Hoplite on turn 2 in at least 3 different games. Liked it so much and I saw similar builds that I took a crack at it.

Basically just wait till you can get a heroic creature, dump your enchantments on it and hold back protection spells and KILL KILL KILL.

Deck discussion for Heroes of Theros!

i know it might not be as good as "Fabled Hero", but i think "Wingstead Rider" would be a better choice. Flying can hit easier than Double Strike in my opinion. In my Red/White heroic deck, "Wingstead Rider" works so much better then "Fabled Hero". Probably because i run "Boros Charm".

Yea but Aqueous form+Fabled Hero = profit
And you can give it protection from colors.

yeah...i guess your right. But why doesn't Aqueous Form say "Unblockable" instead of "can't be blocked"? AND why is it only a common? It should at least be a Uncommon.

They're not using "Unblockable" anymore, the article can be read here http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/248e

this is what i ran at game day. it didnt do so great against people in the tournament, but i single-handedly stomped 5 hydra heads into the ground for a come from behind victory. heroic is hard to balance right i think, but it can be done

I just love these explosive kind of decks. I'm not really a control player, so this is probably the only kind of W/U deck I'd build.

try vines of vastwood or detention sphere? (:

I'd appreciate the like for some extra attention towards the deck for critiques? (:

I've got the two spheres, I think that's enough. Also this is more geared toward standard, though Vines of Vastwood kicked on Fabled Hero is kinda funny.

Battlewise Hoplite is a beast! The scry effect when targeting him is just awesome! I had three of him in a draft along with 3 aqueous form and 2 hopeful eidelion and I was attacking and gaining all kinds of life!

I would actually suggest running two Brave the Elements, the consistency of being able to save your forces or swing lethal makes it worth the Dauntless Onslaught you paid for it, which will it is cool, is a 3 drop, and conflicts a lot with the general mana curve. Just my two cents.

And by the way, a Swamp + Dark Ritual + Entomb + It That Betrays in Graveyard + Exhume on turn 1 feels MUCH better than a turn 1 Favored Hoplite. 'Course, then, an Innocent Blood from your opponent feels worse :P

Eh, Jwish27 said NOTHING felt better. I said something that felt better.

Of course, that combo isn't all that reliable, the hoplites are :D

Actually he said nothing was more "satisfying" that a turn 1 hoplite, but i will give you this one. Touché good sir

Also, when I said that, I was thinking more about the current standard format. It could be argued that Burning-Tree Emissary x 4 and Fire-fist Striker (I think that's the 2/1 Battalion makes guy not block) is a sweeter feeling, but I'm just tired of red decks right now.

amen to that

Yea, Dauntless Onslaught, while AMAZING in draft, is kinda overpriced for a combat trick in this deck, since all the others are 1 mana

yeah i prefer battlewise valor and show of valor myself

on whats more satisfying, although turn 3 but playing 3x burning tree and then nyxing into a fanatic is pretty satisfying, even with a field wipe right after. you could even have turn one cackler

to play common bond instead of millitant. run millitant in sideboard. Common bond let you target a creature to time in a row which is double heroic. also take a look at centaur battlemaster. it might be expensive but it can be extremely good when you have it down

won't work, has to be separate spells targeting the creature so you have to choose two different creatures.

so dumb question. does the hidden strings trigger Heroic if you target your creatures with the tap/untap effect?
really like the build by the way.

0

yes it does

0

Also, what's technically true is that you can target them with the spell, activate the heroic trigger, and then choose not to tap/untap it anyway since it's a "may" ability.

With every creature being a white, why not run a playset of Brave the Elements? And without knowing what you'd want to target, I'd keep Detention Sphere for the sideboard. Then you could add in two more enchantments for your creatures. Maybe a pair of Ehtereal Armor.

If interested, you can check out a recent deck I built at http://www.mtgvault.com/chevob/decks/rdw-pyrogod-combo/

Brave the Elements, while a great board saver, doesn't target, so it won't trigger Heroic as much as I want. If I were any good at making sideboards, I'd definitely put two more in against things like Anger of the Gods.

Phalanx Leader and Fabled Hero should be a 4 of in my opinion, the leader is a constant game swing and pretty much activates heroic on all of them purely by the 1 boost, Hero is just a bit of a better Silverblade Paladin! There are quite a few bits that make it too much of the mono white aggro, which is a super strong deck, but you should focus on the heroic side before changing the deck anymore.
