Deck Description

This is a request deck designed for BurtnErnie. Here you go, hope it meets your approval. :)

So this is a budget wizard tribal extraction deck.

sideboard is full of cards that I considered putting in the deck.

comments and suggestions are always welcome. :)

How to Play

preferably you want to put out psychic surgery and cosi's trickster before playing any extraction cards. then start chipping away at key parts of their deck, and start taking their creatures with beguiler of wills.

fun thing to do: use tolarian entrance + nemesis mask to take all of their creatures all at once. :)

you have vedalken aethermage for search, and counterbore for some nasty countering. expensive to play yes, but it also doubles as an extraction card, essentially countering 4 cards for 5 mana. (5+ cards if you have out 1 or more psychic surgery.)

really the coolest card in the deck has got to be dichotomancy. let your opponent build up their creatures, and then have a mass extraction that takes a copy of each of those permanents from their library and gives them to you. :) need to find a way to made then attack you though... :(

Deck discussion for B&E's wizarding menace deck

It's nice, and I've certainly never seen this kind of extraction before, so that's pretty neat. I do worry about your mana curve though. It might be worth it to try shaving off some of the high costs.

Thinking that dichotomancy isn't worth it, even with the suspend for 3 mana? It is kind of a weak point here. Any good suggestions to replace it?

And counterbore is probably too expensive as a pure counter card, but I like it for the extraction that it gives. Act suggestions on that?

Also this is kind of supposed to be a budget deck, so that is a bit of a concern. (perhaps I might do a non budget version as well. Making it a little more effective.)

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Wizards are pricks, just like faeries! :)

They have you charged 4 bucks for your lands.
Take out the Thero ones for something like the M14 ones.
I think they don't add those into the price of your deck.

Love the Mask/Entrancer combo.

I definitely want to make me a lure/deathtouch/green/blue thingy with Entrancer soon.

Has my vote!

good call on the lands. :) dropped the price under $20.

oh, and if you want some nastiness with the entrance/mask combo, or anything with the mask really, run venomous breath. much better than deathtouch. it makes the target creature like a Loyal sentry, and destroys all creatures blocked by it or blocking it. doesn't even need to deal damage, just be blocked.

I would put some regular old counter spells in this deck too

ok, so how would you fit them in here? I am contemplating taking out Dichotomancy, because it is very mana heavy, but I was hoping to replace it with more extraction. perhaps there are other counter cards that do both, besides counterbore? (and not quash, too limited.)

I would get rid of Psychic Surgery for couterspell, not really felling the lantern either, perhaps put in a one drop wizard instead or just more counters.

Finally, after seeing a few Tolarian Entrancer decks, decided to make one of my own.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

u can use gigadrowse to tap opponents creatures and maybe fit in some silver myr to ramp into your higher spells

Psychogenic Probe is a really good one if you want to keep presure on them while you just watch them shuffle their life away

So true! Great suggestion.

Probe is very good, and I was certainly contemplating putting it in here. But what to take out for it? I am thinking about removing Dichotomancy, but I am hoping to swap it for another extraction card.

Any suggestions?

I would take out one counterbore and one dichotomy two should be enough

The mana curve is kinda high ... echomage for the lulz?

Hands of Binding and Hidden Strings might be very useful. Especially the latter. If you tap 2 creatures, then attack, then tap 2 more permanents .... that's for Dichotomancy. Hidden Strings also can give you more mana by untapping your lands.

Well, the really mana-heavy card is dichotomancy at 8 mana but it can be played for 3, hence the funky curve. Although I like what you are saying about have of binding and hidden strings, I am actually heavily considering removing Dichotomancy for something more... Effective, instead of fun. But I am really not sure what to replace it with. Any suggestions? Preferably with another extraction card, for the shuffles. :)

Echo mage might not be a bad addition here, but I really want more non creatures.

No, keep Dichotomancy. Replace counterbore!

As for making it more effective ... that's really what hidden strings does! All you need is a tad of ramp ...

Well, I have a card in the sideboard to tap things for Dichotomancy, so that isn't really an issue. But if I remove counterbore I am still wanting another extraction card to replace it with or another counter card. Actually... Would probably be more interested in another counter card. But I still need to keep cards that make my opponent shuffle.

Why not mana drain? It's a counterspell and helps with your mana curve!

Evil Grin

0

Because this was supposed to be a budget deck. However, mana drain IS an EVIL counter card.

u should drop 1 dichotomancy 1 counterbore 1 vedalken aethermage and add 3 gigadrowse it is better then the tap spell u have sideboarded

Better than gridlock? I like gigadrowse but it requires all blue mana, whereas gridlock only needs one blue mana. Now admittedly this is a mono blue deck so that isn't as much of an issue, but gridlock still has one advantage: It can tap or untap things. So I can use it on my own creatures, whereas gigadrowse only taps and therefore lessens the overall flexibility to me.

giga taps with the 1st mana gridlock doesn't and gridlock doesn't untap

0

my bad, you are correct. it doesn't untap. I was thinking of a different card.
however, neither gigadrowse nor gridlock help Tolarian entrancer, which is the core of the deck. although they do help Dichotomancy, which does compliment the effect.

Might be interesting to make it UR and throw in Possibility Storm to aid Pyschic Surgery, along with a few other red cards. That being said, this was a very unexpected wizard deck, nice creativity! Thanks Kazzong!

If I were you I would try to lower the average mana cost among your creatures, I don't know how your getting by with 20 lands

Because the most dangerous creatures in here are not the expensive ones. They are the same in the wound cards. Not needed to actually win. Plus... This is a budget deck.

I am a pretty casual player and play with a small group. The decks I currently have on here are just my IRL ones (I use this as a tool to manage them). That being said I am always looking for good advice in the directions I should take my decks, I will open a couple up to the public.

Thanks for the interest Jessie :). If you have any decks you want me to look at I would be more than happy to help out!

Check out any decks that I have, that you play.
Example, if you play Red Burn decks...then check out my Red Burn decks.
If you play control, then look at a few of my few decks.

I am always ready to make my decks better.
Any advice rocks!

Indeed it would. but what would you swap for it?

0

cut to two counterbore for 2 bidents, its such a high CMC for a counterspell, you might already be dead. if you really want that type of hate try surgical extraction. their spell resolves and goes to the graveyard, then you take all the rest of them

1

Indeed surgical extraction is great. But it would blow the $25 budget.

I am also trying to mashed a non budget version of this deck. So I can out some better cards in here... Like surgical extraction. :)
