Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Sorceries (1)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

death by ping! Cinder pyromancer and thermo-alchemist both untap when I play... pretty much anything.
a little land destruction, a little ramp, a little draw... and a lot of burn.

How to Play

the goal is really to play as many thermo-alchemists and cinder pyromancers as possible.
after that... the deck pretty much plays itself. tap creatures to ping your opponent, burn to the face, tap creatures to ping... repeat.

seismic spike to slow your opponent, rite of flame to ramp and pseudo storm.

Dead/Gone in the sideboard is an unusual red bounce spell, which could be very good here in a pinch, if your burn can't kill it. funny against gurmag angler having delved to be put out early.

Deck discussion for Pauper burn

Really baffling deck to me, because a huge number of cards are built to deal with creatures, where a normal burn deck should never have to kill creatures in order to win. They should just be faster than creature-based decks, especially in Pauper, where pretty much only turn-1 Delver, turn-2 2 more Delvers could actually threaten to kill you before you kill them, and even in that case, Lightning Bolt has your back. Firebrand Archer is cheaper than Cinder Pyromancer, and can deal pretty much just as much damage. Structural Distortion and Seismic Spike could be substituted for Molten Rain or even Raze. Fireblast, Lava Spike, Chain Lightning, Searing Blaze, and Fireblast are all cost-effective damage-dealers. The sideboard, again, is very odd to me. If you have 16 lands in your deck, it will take you, on average, 8 turns to hit the 5 lands needed to cast Lava Axe. If your opponent is still alive by then, they are going to counter that Lava Axe. The rest of the sideboard, again, is very questionable at best. Geistflame is nearly strictly worse than Firebolt, Dead // Gone is nearly as useless as Lava Axe, you'll almost never have a land in hand to discard to Flame Jab. The only one I can really approve of is Staggershock, which has a neat little combo with your creatures. The board is all about bringing in hate for specific decks. Smash to Smithereens, Structural Distortion, and Molten Rain are perfect for the board because they're situationally good. Relic of Progenitus and Pyroblast are other options. As for lands, 16 seems very limited to me. Maybe add in 2 Forgotten Cave just in case.

what are you talking about? the only burn spell here that doesn't hit the player is flame slash. and this sideboard isn't final by any means.

I do like firebrand archer though. I might swap that out. my only issue is that if I have no spells in hand it is mostly dead. particularly if my opponent has creatures.

this deck is mostly meant to play around with the creatures ability. it isn't meant to be super competitive, just fun and different.

Okay, I didn't mean to be aggressive, sorry about that. With these changes, I really do like the deck. But it wasn't just Flame Slash, you did have Fiery Impulse in there, too, when I started my comment. Expedite here is kind of awkward, as it's essentially "deal 1 damage, draw a card" and only if you have your pingers out. If you're willing to drop more money on cards, Needle Drop ends up being "deal 2 damage, draw a card" with a pinger out. Like I said, I like the deck, and I really like Pauper, because it's a format with so many choices and possibilities.

no worries. I misread fiery impulse. thought it was strictly better shock, which isn't the case.

agreed with the format. I have not been able to play much, but certainly enjoy it. :)

I really like burn combined with land destruction.
I'm not a fan of Burst Lightning, though. I think Staggershock would give a better return on investment. 2+2 damage for 3 mana instead of maybe 4 for 6. Chain Lightning would be a good alternative, too, if you don't mind going to sorcery speed.

Pauper is a tough format! I'd really love to just toss in some Banefire or Demonfire or Fireball for a finisher and to suck up anything you can get from Rite of Flame.

about the closest thing you can get to banefire or even fireball is kearvek's torch.

There's also Disintegrate and Lava Burst, but I'd say Kaervek's Torch is best of these because of counterspells.

hey kazzong how do i make a burn deck?

a burn deck is about as simple as you get. most of the time it is mono red, so only red cards. and you use very few (if any) creatures. cheap cards that do damage directly to a player. the classic example of this being lightning bolt. instant speed, 1 red mana, and it deals 3 damage to target creature or player. lots of cards like that. simple, effective, and usually very fast.

so only a few creatures, and lots of instants and sorceries.
