Deck Description

Finally after a long time of not playing magic, I decided to pick it up again and make a deck. I wanted this deck to be completely different from the current meta, so I thought... And finally I have found a use for tavern swindler!!!

Picture this, having a vizkopa guildmage and tavern swindler in play. Activate vizkopas second ability and go nuts with swindlers and elixirs. It gets really crazy when you add faithmenders into the mix. That's a 50/50 chance of tapping for 12 damage!!!!

The baron also makes for a nice finisher once you've gained a truckload of life. Alternatively you could just burn your opponents face off with the elixirs. It's really up to you.

Comment what you think/any improvements you think could be made. It would be greatly appreciated. I'm taking this to my stores weekly standard tournament this Tuesday, just to see everyone's faces when swindler taps for 12 damage.

Thanks, it was inspired by another BW control build that used the baron, but just for the barons sake, there was no synergy. This way, you can gain life like Grady, burn like crazy, and get turn a 5/6 10/10 pro BW lifelink flying beater.

I'll be sure to have a look at your deck for you.

This is quite awesome. I love the use of Rhox Faithmender to double EVERYTHING. Potentially 16x if you somehow get all 4 out.

Even one makes the guildmages ability absolutely devastating, especially with the elixirs, that's a 20 point life swing for just 5/6 mana! :D

Do you think it has the potential to be competitive in the current meta? It does have the life gain to survive vs all the aggro decks around at the moment.

Aggro decks can be stalled. It's blue decks with the canceling and what not you need to look out for. Riot Control would be your ace in hole for aggro decks. Also, mutilate could end up wiping you too, so perhaps it should be taken out for something else.

That was the intention. :P

I included sin collecter in the sideboard for control matchups, to get rid of any unwanted wrath effects, etc. I think this build is a midrange decks worst nightmare. Because as far as I can see, there is no was for them to effectively interact with my "combo" and I've included three copies of immortal servitude to side in when your opponent has the means of killing of my key 2 mana creatures.

Yeesh. This deck is pretty cool. Hope it sweeps standard before Innistrad and M13 go out.

Thankyou, I'll let you know how it does this Tuesday. I just need to get a hold of those blood barons.

That's a cool card, but I have built this deck for standard play, so I can't include it, sorry. Besides, although the damage is insane, the swindler is purely for lols. Also, I wanted to use cards that people have deemed unplayable in standard.

UPDATE: I have taken out one mutilate and one tribute to hunger from the sideboard for two exquisite blood, should I have left the mutilate in there and taken out the nighthawk instead? Not sure..

Does exquisite blood deserve a place in the main deck, or is it just another sideboard card vs control and midrange. As it does weaken my ability to deal with all the aggro out there. If you think it does, what should I take out for it?

As a side note, I was just wondering how many people bother to actually read through comments at all?

Credit for this idea goes to Konjester, for his use of it in his deck, and for reminding me of the cards loopy-ness. :p

Before seeing this, did you ever think tavern swindler would burn your face off? Didn't think so. :P

What do you think about the actual viability of the deck, do you think it will be competitive in standard in its current form? If not, do you have any ideas for improvements?

I would mainboard Sin Collector. It would help against spot removal and that is the biggest weakness I see.

Cheers, I was considering that, what would you suggest I take out for it?

he nighthawks. You could sub them in against aggro decks.

Should I drop a baron for a fourth sin collecter? Or are the barons just too good?

If you have it, cut one baron for another sin collector too! Hope it works well.

Thanks, I can't wait for this Tuesday, it will be insane. XD

It's just a pity that my store is full of top teir decks, so if it works well, it's a winner.

That Boros Deck I posted stands tall with top tier decks. The only bug I have found is a slow start. If I don't just explode out of the gate, I get controlled to death.

Okay, so my stupid internet decided it wasn't working, so I haven't been online to report for the deck. :(

Overall it has been running great, the guildmage is an absolute beast, and tavern swindler has won me many games. The sin collectors are also great mainboard, as I have saved my dudes from countless verdicts.

I have taken an immortal servitude and an exquisite blood out of the sideboard for a couple victim of nights, just because that is the best answer to obzedat at the moment IMO.
