http://mythicspoiler.com/ori/cards/sphinxstutelage.htmlPainted stone has been well known in legacy, but can it also be viable in modern? With the arrival of origins drawing closer everyday, it came to my attention a certain card called sphinx's tutelage (link above). For those that do not know what painted stone (aka imperial painter, etc...) is, it is a legacy deck revolving around the cards painter's servant and grindstone.(Kinda tired. Will post more later.)
Deck prototype... Cantrips.

I would say it works, so every single cantrip and the big one I think is missing is Remand, that is a win con with tutalage and saves the painter, I would play a green shell so you can search, possibly even that new black tutor, because it sets you up with 3 mana, to cast painter as soon as you do it and then thoughtseize before to check you're good to go

I am planing a few different versions with this. Forgot that remand draws a card too XD. Nice ideas.
Wait no, it doesn't work, its both non-land that share a colour
I know. That's what all the drawing cantrips are for.
I'm not sure its reliable enough if it can get its combo and then fail, especially when there are decks like Splinter Twin
I had the sameish idea. http://www.mtgvault.com/ktrojan/decks/land-fun-2/
I also saw the tutelage and thought "wotc want's grinding painter to live?"It's a lot cheaper than helm of obediance and has no activation so is a lot less vulnerable to needle/revoker.It will take some work with this to fit in modern, and should stay as close to the legacydesigns as possible to work.
But it can't actually pull off the legacy combo sadly
No not even close. It's very much just a casual thing.
