Deck Description

My friends and I decided to have a 6-way free for all. Each player would represent a color W/U/B/R/G and Artifact. I will most likely be using white so I want to have the best standard format deck for the occasion. I don't know when we will do this, but I want to be ready.

Any improvements? Any sb ideas?

Deck discussion for The Mono Games: White Control

hm to me, i would think droppin the pacifism for idk some gather the towns folk or somethin would be good. u could even try the new ajani combined with white sun's zenith.

it looks pretty solid otherwise KJ.

i agree with the above statement about some better early board prescence if someone decides to play fast in green you will be in trouble a thragtusk would be unfortunate for you or a elfball with the craterhoof coming down would hurt

i would replace feeling of dread and pacifism with some kind of board advantage, given the legnth of game your trying to go thaben doomsayer could get annoying after a while and when you drop elesh norn suddenly all his tokens are a pain, also a champion of the parish wouldnt be bad considering (if you add the thraben doomsayer) youd already be at 12

Presence can mean just as much control as power. Control doesn't rely on just the sole ability to maintain your opponents field because if you consistently tapping your stuff to keep the opposition suppressed your setting yourself up for failure. In this case, he has Elesh for his fatty, so all should be good, but I completely agree with two Hero of Bladehold in this deck 100%. I'd take out one Gideon, and one Norn's Annex for them.

I'd also play Gather the Townsfolk at two or three.

Another thing I'd consider for this is Sublime Archangel. Crazy powerful. Build a small token base with Gather the Townsfolk, Attended Knight, and Hero of Blade Hold. You'll murk 'em hardcore style.

A hero of Bladehold fits perfectly into control... she alone is an army and gives the deck another edge of attack

How do you think this will do against all other colors? Or should I use a different deck? http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=378047

Premise: I'm no expert with formats, so I don't know what is standard and what isn't. I'm going to suggest you some cards solely based on how good they would be, and if they are out of format, simply discard them.
I think your best bet would be to make this a token oriented deck. So lots of token generation spells like gather the townsfolk or captain's call, and some big ones like captain of the watch and geist-honored monk.
Conclude with Odric and a couple of Honor of the pure/Crusade.

The rest should be permanent control like oblivion rings, path to exiles, sword to plowshares, whatever you like.

standard format is always the latest core set and the 2 newest blocks. only exception to that is when the rotation comes, which is now with RTR. right now m12 and the scars block is leagal until RTR hits the table. then those 2 are out. and then standard format will be once again the newest coreset + the 2 newest blocks. m13, AVR, RTR.

I still don't get it. If it is the core set and 2 newest blocks, right now it should be m13, AVR and Dark Ascension. And with Return to Ravnica, it shall be m13, RTR and AVR.

Is that so?

I love that you're playing Norn's Annex.
I would use Porcelain Legionnaire instead of Ajani's Sunstriker.
And I hope you could put in at least 1 Entreat the Angels. That would be so painful.
Your set-up here is to stop your opponents form dealing damage to you.
But I think you could turn this into a token deck too along with Lingering Souls, Gather the townsfolk, intangible virtue, and honor the pure.
I'm really not sure which of the two would work better.
You could add Nevermore to your sideboard by the way.
So far, this is already solid and well-rounded. I really don't know if my suggestions helped you. Keep up the good work KJSJ!

Was not planning on tokenizing the deck, but that might be the best route to take. Thanks for the advice guys. Keep it coming. Wish me luck.

I agree that tokenizing is good. White does a number of things well, and one of those things is weenies! I'm no expert at standard so I can't offer advice as far as cards are concerned, but am I to take it you're playing this in a 5 way FFA? Here's my FFA advice

Are there many board wipes in standard right now? If so you will want to kill whoever is playing the board wipey colors first (prime suspects are black and red). You don't want to hold on to a pile of creatures for a great finisher when they are just going to wipe the field. Blue is your next biggest threat with counterspells and bouncing (again, I'm not sure how much of this there is in standard). You want to gen enough creatures that localized creature removal doesn't even matter.

Next up is your late game. Green will probably be a problem here. You know what you want to do to deal with green?

1 - Chump block with your ample tokens
2 - Kill anyone who stands in your way with (did some research here)...

SUBLIME ARCHANGEL

In a token deck you might as well rename her Sublime Arch Goddess. She will be a PRIME target for removal, luckily she only has a cmc of 4, so you can run 4 of her without hurting your mana ramp. 2 in play is better than one, but only do that if you have one more in hand (in case of board wipes).

Also, I believe there is a white weenie that gets +1/+1 counters every time you play another creature (or maybe when you tap a creature)? I remember playing against my friend's standard deck recently and, though I was playing vintage (casual deck, not competitive), he wrecked me with it! can anyone help with what I'm thinking of?

If I could contact him for a deckbuild I would, but I don't have is contact info and he's about 3 hours away ATM. His white weenie standard deck wrecked even in 2v1...

champion of the parish gets 1/1/ counters everytime a human enters the battefield, and gideons avanger gets a 1/1 counter everytime a creature is tapped, cathcars crusade gives all your creatures a 1/1 counter whenever a creature enters the battlefield

All I tend to play is large FFA multiplayer games. The main things you need are mass hate, staying power, a bit of spot removal, and some disenchant type hate. Best bet tends to be creatures that do double duty as any of those other things. Stuff like Leonin Relic-Warder.

One off effects tend to save you for maybe half a turn in MP and then get you stomped later. Gideon's lawkeeper rocks, the feeling of dread less so. The flashback is good but against 5 other people something that is always affecting the board is usually better.

Norn's Annex is a good start, taxes even the game out, but they always put a target on your head so be sure to be mindful of that.

Grand Abolisher could be a solid sideboard card if it turns out everyone is running shit tons of tricks.

One or two Elixir of Immortality is wicked for long games, the 5 life has saved me more than once, it can hide your graveyard from opponents tricks and if you somehow manage to burn through all your creature hate and its still coming, a second chance at them is better than no chance.

I'd swap out a pacifism for another Day of Judgement. With 6 people you're almost always getting like a 4 for 1 minimum, and often times much much crazier. Divine Reckoning could also work great. Hang on to your Elesh and kill everything else, and whatever they choose isn't going to be much of an issue. Plus you can flash it back again, solid card advantage. Or for a couple more mana, Phyrexian Rebirth. I've won more than a few games by ending up with a 12/12 that can't be doom bladed.

The funny thing about this is that I hate white as a stand alone color. Lol. :). This looks to most certainly do defense, but also have offensive capabilities too. Well done. :)

I would say to drop pacifism and add in safe passage. Perhaps faiths reward? If you have board-wipe it will allow you to get everything back. Other than that. I really have no good suggestions.

Entreat the Angels and Ajani, Caller of Pride (his ultimate) are both good finishers. But I'm assuming they are not in there since you don't own them and they are incredibly expensive. Anyways, maybe sideboard Angel of Jubilation, Celestial Purge, and Demystify. Hero of Bladehold and Elite Vanguard are also solid cards. Those are just what i know of the top of my head, hope i helped KJ

haha here kj use this with a few minor adjustments

http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=355125

-2 war and peace for 2 feast and famine and stick 2 body and minds on sideboard
-3 berserkers for 2 more mirran crusaders and an odric, master tactition
-4 maulers for 1 more odric, and 3 attended knights\
-1 bonfire for increasing devotion
and lands might as well just run 20 plains 4 caverns.

the human from innistard that lets you draw a card when a creature with 2 power or less comes into play on your side of the field ( side board it helps with extra draw and cmc is cheap )

ok i see a lot of people talking about tokens for this deck i love tokens that is my favorite to make i agree i use my tokens deck on cockatrice all the time and it is very tough to beat mine has green also though (parallel lives) which doesnt help you but i feel white is the best token wise color so i would go with it if champs of parish work i would use them with the gathers and the increasing devotion with elesh norn they will be deadly but waiting that long might be a problem so i would add in quicksilver amulet i dont know if all of that works for standard or not but just thought id point it out. If your worried about board wipes which most people are and you decide to go with quicksilver amulet avacyn herself might not be a bad idea when i bring her out most people rage quit right away. thanks for all the great decks and help you bring to the vault i appreciate it and most people here do as well hope this helped good luck

Seriously a good deck, I would probably put in some Cathar's Crusades to give you even more +1/+1 counters with the token generation.

Really, very nice concept. Force your opponent creatures to attack Gideon by using his +2 with 1,2,3 or 4 Norn's Annex on the field, then activate Safe Passage lol.
