Duel/Dual Deck: Firepower

by KnightoftheHokeyPokey on 17 May 2014

Main Deck (60 cards)

Planeswalkers (2)

Enchantments (3)

Land (23)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Creatures (3)

Sorceries (3)

Instants (6)

Enchantments (3)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Hehehe ... I saw Satyr Firedancer and it was love at first sight. You think you have been burned before? You ain't seen nothing yet.

Oh, and this deck, while powerful in it's own right, in 2 player matches it will be backed up by Cover Fire, an izzet deck that focuses on copying spells and card draw.

This deck works in standard with the curse, zealot, and da flames. Don't bring the rest of the sideboard in that case.

If you want to play casual, switch out your one drops with blazing salvo and searing blaze. That should give you quite an edge in modern.

How to Play

Young Pyromancer generates useful chump blockers. Burn everything else your opponent plays down.

Guttersnipe is useful to hurt your opponent. Especially since there are so many instants and sorceries.

Firedancer turns the most innocent burn spells into crazy killers.Even cards like shock and lava axe can hit incredibly hard if you target an opponent. Then you nail both your opponent and one of his creatures ... for no added cost. This effectively doubles the effectiveness of all your burn spells. Yikes!

Dictate of the Twin Gods, like all dictates, is ludicrously undervalued. In a burn deck, this card is pretty much game over next turn, even against multiple opponents. The best part is that it can be cast in the end step of your opponent's turn, meaning you have 5 or 6 mana on hand AND your opponent sees minimal use out of it.

If going up against a red burn deck, switch to curse of bloodletting, because it won't affect your opponent. Ash Zealot is here if your opponent trys to combat your burn with playing from the graveyard. Flames of the firebrand shines in multiplayer, especially if satyr firedancer is out.

The other spells in the sideboard are for causal play. Blazing Salvo replaces shock and searing blaze replaces lightning strike. Both are low-cost instants that rival the king of damage instants, the legendary lightning bolt.

And here is the duel/dual deck:

And here is how to "give me an evil grin for a week" (Zaklax13) :

Chandra's Ultimate + Fire Axe for the win. I dare you to try it.

Deck discussion for Duel/Dual Deck: Firepower

There is a creature and an enchantment with cmc 5 that doubles the damage dealt to the player.

Dictate of the Twin Gods

Fire servant, curse of bloodletting (I think that's the right one).

0

I think Dictate is a tad better ... it has flash, and doesn't target the player directly.

The question is ... dictate or fire servant. The dictate would apply to my creatures (including satyr firedancer), but the fire servant gives me a creature. Thoughts?

It works on you as well. Just be careful when you play it.

1

True, but what can outdo red burn for damage? With it and guttersnipe out, shock does 8 damage for 1 mana and skullcrack 10 for 2 mana.

If I happen to be up against red burn, I choose curse of bloodletting 'cause my poor fire servant is apt to get nailed. Thanks for the reminder.

What do you suggest in place of blazing salvo to make this modern legal? I might keep it anyway ... it fits right into this deck.

Holy crap. Minus Shivan Meteor and Blazing Salvo this is legal in standard. Quick, I need replacements!

I hate to say it, bit searing blaze is not modern. Too bad ... it's even better than lighting bolt!

Very good. Standard deck, with non-standard sideboard.
I just wonder how on earth all those dictates' financial values are so low. They are all very, very good cards. Especially the Dictate of Erebos. In sacrifice deck it is more like DICTATURE of Erebos!

-tature replaces -k to make it PG rated.

Seriously though, I found out that Rihanna's music videos are PG rated. WTF! Not even PG 13? How could that be okay to show 8 or 9 year olds?

Dictate is scary unless you have big creatures like stormbreath dragon. purphoros might work better as it will do damage with guttersnipe as young pyromancer makes a creatures. Nice deck.

1
Posted 10 June 2014 at 20:51

Hmm... I think that the hammer would be ridiculous with kiln fiend, nivmagus elemental, and nivix cyclops ...

It does not combo very well with young pyromancer and guttersnipe. I think I will use magma jet here. Hammer would do really well in a deck that features kiln fiend and nivix cyclops.

Purphorus the god it does 2 damage to a player when a creature enters the battlefield. Have you seen the legions initiative combo'd with purphorus? You sacrifice legions initiative to remove all creatures from the game and then bring them back in doing two damage to opponent for each creature.

I don't know the rules, but I know a pretty much about the Warhammer universe. I have read about it and I also have the videogame: Warhammer 40 000, Space Marine.

If I played 40k, I guess I played with Eldar. When I read about them, I was impressed by their Harlequins, the swift and deadly close combat infrantry.

2

I think Dark Eldar have the Harlequins. The game Space Marine as pretty good, although probably a bit far fetched: A lone space marine killing a Daemon prince? I can slightly understand him surviving the Orks, if he were lucky

He must be related to Doom Guy ... I love the corps! (wait ... wrong marines) =).

I would play the guard if I played. With the new detachment rules, you can have a ridiculous amount of infantry.

its a "duel deck", basically i homemade version of what you can get at target, so it doesnt have to be. its not for tournament play.

1

Well, the main deck and part of the sideboard is. Read the description. This works in tournaments, in a dual, by itself, or with it's twin deck.

1

oh i know you could, i was just thinking the duel deck theme. could convert itr to standard very quickly

fixed draw is good. titans strength? itll pump a creature

1

Hmmm ... not exactly trying to pump any creatures. However, a little card draw is a great idea!

1

wild guess is a decent standard RED draw card. though it doesn't create card advantage it does allow you to get rid of something you don't need.

0

I'm not a fan of red but i would add purphoros, god of the forge
Like fury but for creatures.. So if u have fury and the god... Your going to dominate!

1

That is a great idea! I might run Purphoros instead of Chandra! (Though Chandra can kill with fire axe).

0

Idk wht you could take out, my opinion i love the gods... So if say god over planeswalker... But i think another great card would be lighting bolt and lava spikes

this is a standard deck those cards are not legal for it

1
Posted 14 June 2014 at 01:39

Plus I don't have enough dough to buy more lightning bolts than my dad gave me. Any nonstandard suggestion competes with blazing salvo and searing blaze!

0

Though, if I added all four ... no one would play me.

Lightning Bolt + Lava Spike + Blazimg Salvo + Seariring Blaze (+ Flame Slash) = no one plays your deck twice.

I forgot tht dictate of the gods has a great combo.... Get Boros reckoner
Then have Boros out... They attack with a 5/5... You flash in dictate of the gods
Now tey deal 10 to Boros, then Boros ability will kick in and it will deal 10 to the opponent then double to 20!
Thts a good combo!
