Deck Description

I did a mock up of a Birthing Pod type deck; it leaves out the Archangel of Thune combo, and this may be a mistake. It's trying to use Collected Company to replace Birthing Pod, but we all know it's not the same.

Similar deck lists popped up all over TCGPlayer States this weekend. Just sayin'.

How to Play

This is/was just a test deck. Another user posted a Pod-combo list that looked interesting. I took it to a different level.

Pod isn't about pure combo. Pod was about versatility. I have another, what I think, better list here: http://www.mtgvault.com/larkfellon/decks/domri-pod/

If you're looking for pure Modern fun, look elsewhere. I have a list of decks that I'd play before this list above: Infect, Twin, or my take on Delver ( http://www.mtgvault.com/larkfellon/decks/rwu-mentor/ )

Deck discussion for Birthing Pod 2.0

I don't think some of the card choices from Pod apply in a Post-Pod world. Also I think that the mana dorks are great for ramping into pod to chain off, but less great at ramping into ... collected company ... for more mana dorks. Company is so much less reliable. That's why the other guy was running Congregation. We both know Congregation is terrible, but I think perhaps we can still make Company better by adding a few more midrangy dudes to the list to get natural Company value from. Siege Rhino, Goyf, or Thrun. Things that are threats beyond the combo and make "whiffing on the combo kill" less harmfull, because you can still grab a rhino and a birds for value.

I don't disagree, whatsoever. Honestly, I just wanted to show a more versatile build of what he was trying to do. Slamming a combo isn't my favorite thing to do, especially in modern. However, combo by chance and running the board with multiple options; now that's my flavor. At the end of the day, Pod is dead but there are so many good creatures out there. I'll link another list I made that takes into account what you're saying.

Deck a 4 likes 1 comment, gets to front page. Deck b 6 likes 8 comments, doesn't get to front page. Explain how that happens.

Rant aside, have you thought of using the saffi combo?

I've had them like that; none of mine make first page. I made this only to show the OTHER Birthing Pod Reborn guy how i'd do what he wanted to do.

And no, saffi combo? I'm not familiar, or mayhaps I'm missing something.

I think not using Collected Company is a mistake

This isn't trying to be a pure combo deck, my friend. The last Pod decks were less combo, more versatility, which won more. And Pod was a deck that you HAD to play many many times. You needed to know the interactions and when/what to drop.

Congregation simply enables the combo. sometimes it just finds you bullets, at a better rate than Chord.

I do agree with larkfellon, Chord of Calling is great on it's own, Congregation only helps you find the combo, making Chord a better card to put in the deck since it can help you find a silver bullet you need at the time, or the winning piece of your combo and put it into play instead of on top of the library. List seems pretty sweet right now as is... :3

Thank you, Maumau. I may tweak a few aspects of it, but as I said, there's a ton of copies of this deck running around (and I had no hand in those peoples lives - that I know of!). So, it's having success, only the future will tell how much.

Why the ranger of Eos? Help with getting seer/dorks?

He empowers and refuels the board. It's not a concern if he can't be retrieved with Collected Company. After seeing how the deck curves out he fits in quite well.

Alright that's fair, just was curious about the reasoning behind it. You take this to any tournaments yet?

I was unable to take it to States this weekend, car troubles. Though, had I gone to states I would have been playing my Elf-Ball list. Two of my friends took Elves and both went 3-2 but dropped heading into round 6. They didn't feel confident they'd make the cut to top 8 sadly. They should have played it out, but to each their own!
