Deck Description

UPDATED: 14/8/15 - After some playtesting I was finding the deck was weak early-game due to only having a small number of cheaper creatures. I also found I struggled against decks that would pump their creatures, such as Prowess, and flying creatures. To this end I've added more creatures I can get out early (Bloodsoaked, Ainok) which have their own abilities. Bloodsoaked I can keep bringing back and Ainok can give me an early 2/2 or an extra land if needed.

I've also included a bunch of cheap kill cards in Ultimate Price and Reave Soul. This will hopefully stop and problem creatures that the opponent puts out before I can cast Whisperwood or the Hydra. Of course there is a risk here of manifesting those kill cards. To compensate for this I've added Reclaim, so when those cards hit the graveyard via either being killed as manifest creatures of sacrificing them I can get them back.

The idea behind this deck is to manifest Hooded Hydra using Whisperwood Elemental, giving you a 5/5 for only 2 mana. This deck has not yet been tested. I will update once it has been.

How to Play

UPDATE 2: After playing tonight the deck is still not doing terribly well. I was smashed by an Jeskai Ascendancy deck and a prowess deck. I'm not sure how to get around either of those. After a month of playtesting and the deck still not doing terribly well I think it's time to retire it for a while.

UPDATED: 14/8/15 - Playstyle remains much the same with a few small changes such as added kill and having to more aware of what cards are manifested. The Awaken the Bear has taken the place of Chariot of Victory. Hopefully this will make the deck more competitive.

As you can see, there is a lot of ramp in this deck. I decided to add it because 1) you might manifest your lands and 2) the creatures are expensive so if you don't happen to manifest a Hydra you can potentially still cast it.

Sultai Emissary is there to give you a bit of early-game attack option and will also he;p with manifest when it dies. Renowned Weaver I've included as you can use her to block, sacrifice her in response to blocking, and bring in a 1/3 green Spider to contend with any flying creatures.

Chariot of Victory is here to make the Hydra and Whisperwood. Hornet Queen I've included to produce some nice blockers and also deal with an opponent's flying creatures. Garruk, Apex Predator can make life very difficult for the opponent should you be able to get him out.
