*Adds Smite to main board

Questions and Answers:
Play Testing of Version 2 Revealed:
Version 2 is consistent and plays well. I found executioner's swing to be a poor choice. Utilizing the extort trigger at every opportunity keeps life total pretty stable. Once Exquisite hits the board Life total in testing always eventually exceeds 50.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Legality of Play: Orzhov infinite Drain life Combo.
Infinite Combo's in legal play are banned. An infinite combo is defined as any action once triggered is unstoppable and cannot be responded to. DCI has ruled that Infinity actions conclude the match into a draw.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Orzhov infinite Drain Life Combo is NOT an infinite combo.
There are two triggers, each can be responded to.
Explanation:
I activate the Guildmage second ability
I then play Tragic Slip on my High Priest. It resolved and
I then Extort you for 1. (Kickoff)
Extort triggers: I gain 1 , you lose 1.
Players Choice: as to the stack Guildmage or Exquisite Blood but...
Guild Mage Triggers: You lose 1 because I gained 1
Exquisite Blood Triggers: Because you lost 1, I gain 1.
Guild Mage Triggers: You lose one because I gained 1.
Exquisite Blood ...

See? Not infinite. At each of those triggers an opponent can respond.

For those of you new to magic there are really only three kinds of Decks.
Combo , Control , Aggro.
Esper Control (is ofcourse Control)
Red Deck Wins (is ofcourse Aggro)
Junk Reanimator (is ofcourse Combo)

Likewise Merciless Orzhov is a Combo Deck.

How to Play

When making a combo deck the focus is harmony. How many different paths can I take to get to my combo?

Card Explaination:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blind Obedience slows RDW and Junk to a crawl.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
High Priest makes your opponent hesitate on attacking you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lord of the Void is the best choice finisher (yes better than Griselbrand in this case)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sign in Blood is self explanatory
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smite is self explanatory
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wight of Precinct Six, okay now your wondering what is he thinking. Well, this is a meta game side board. Beckon Apparition is gone as an "anti-reanimator" and in its place is this little 2 drop that gets +1/+1 for each creature in an opponents graveyard. So by all means... Mill away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Orzhov Charm, again Why is this in the side board and not main deck? Well because i am not entirely sure this build can survive eating life to kill a creature yet. If it shows good life gain and or stabilization then version 3 will likely see this main board and the entire creature destruction revamped.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One Thousand Lashes, Meta side board. for Jund.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Essence Harvest, Meta Sideboard for Reanimator
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vizkopa Guildmage, utilize her both of her abilities at once as much as possible. Lifelink and opponent loses life equal to life you gained. If you can slide her through for 2 opponent takes 4 you gain 2.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Playing The Deck:

1) Extort into the Guildmages Ability or into Exquisite Blood.

2) Play the Guildmage, Exquisite as soon as possible.

3) Exquisite Blood + Vizkopa Guildmage (2nd ability) + extort (or any life gain) = Infinite Drain Life / infinite Gain Life.

4) Utilize your creature destruction and extort your spells always.

This is a Drain life deck. It is not an infinite Combo Deck. The goal is to leech your opponents Health Directly and often.

Deck discussion for Merciless Orzhov v.3

I see your coming along. I totally agree with your switch to smite but looking at your deck, there are 12 to 16 anti creature cards, five of which are mass removal. That's alot. Alternatively, there are no real protections for your creatures and no ways of bringing them back from the graveyard. Because your deck relies on Guildmage to really inflict massive damage, perhaps your sideboard should be able to protect him? But then what do you loose in your sideboard? I'm not a big fan of Essence Harvest in this deck because you only have one big creature. I would suggest dropping all four and then going for either 1) elixir of immortality (it would shuffle your creatures back into your library and give you a quick life boost) or 2) a white instant like "safe passage" or "shielded passage". Shielded passage is also good for stopping the Boros Reckoner, infinite life combo. Goodluck with your building!! I'm enjoying seeing your progress.

Wouldn't Obzedat fit better into this deck than Lord of the Void? He is cheaper, drains life for your combo and is hard to remove. I would cut Lord of the Void and both Tragic Slips (you already have a ton of removal) for one more Devour Flesh and two Ghost Councils.
Maybe put the Tragic Slip into the sideboard instead of the Essence Harvest :)

Cruncher... A better (and more honest response)

What I need are better side board options. I can't drop Tragic Slip and all the cheap removal because I need cheap spells to extort them multiple times. Run this through in your head as if turn 4 Crypt Ghast isn't hitting the board. turn 5 is 2 white sources and 3 black sources. for a total of 5 mana.

At most I have two to three extort in play (ignoring blind obedience as a potential extort in play on turn 5). Cheap spells are how the little engine that could "gets there". If Duress was a better fit and a better choice It would be in here. But that moves the Deck in another Direction. Obzedat seems like a logical choice until turn 5 and no Crypt Chast. This deck is passive aggressive. If Knight of Obligation was 1 cheaper he would be in over the Screechers. The Screechers though are arguably over powered. a 1/2 flyer with extort for 2. If Syndic wasnt even more so OP for the Extort build. He would be the next choice.
I have a play set of every Gate Crash Orzhov card at my disposal. Card limitations are not the issue anymore.

When I had Obzedat in Dying Shades I ran only one as a play test, I really think I'm the problem here and not Obzedat. Extort is already a difficult and cumbersome mechanic to play properly. Its heavy mana management, heavy spell management, and heavy permanent management on both sides of the table. When Obzedat was in Dying Shades, I just couldn't keep up with him and get him exiled properly. This is the most patience trying deck I have ever made.

This deck is a bitch to play because you have to have so much awareness for everything.
You can't miss a single extort opportunity, you must sacrifice casting an additional spell sometimes to extort for 4,5 or 6 instead. You have to eat the 3/3 Beast Tokens damage, because your "Winning" in the extort game just until you get the removal to take care of him and Boros Reckoner.

The absolute most dick headed asshole combo in this deck is not the Guildmage/Exquisite. Its Smite+Tragic Slip, Its Extorting both of those four times and Its having Exquisite Blood on the Table and Gaining double life on the extort. No one plays Orzhov because its a bitch to play and its a bitch to get it working properly. Its clunky, cumbersome, exhausting to play and even though no one has a sure fire answer to it if you don't have a solid build it falls apart on you like the 11 other versions before this one, this version works VERY VERY WELL. (So Far) 6 games and no losses against Top 8 Decks.
I myself have thus far 12 revisions to this deck alone. 9 being the Dying Shades version of this and 3 more being Merciless Orzhov.
I will have this ready for Miami and Tampa.

There is way to much going on in the Bee Hive of Extort to lose an Obszedat to stupidity. Until I get a better handle on playing this without taking 3 minute turns (3 min and I'm the guy who built the damn thing... /shrug) Lord of The Void is a less taxing creature to deal with. All of this sounds simple on paper right? Extort your spells. duh.

Play it. Then you will see how often you forget to count your extort sources before you cast, and play it properly without going oops I should have extorted that... or waiting till the spells resolved before extorting (illegal), keep a running total of mana available, mana in pool, and mana spent in your head and accounted for with counters when two crypt ghasts are out. Trying to manage white and black sources. Manage Godless Shrine pumping for 1 white and 2 black on the tap. Its like peeling an onion backwards.

Those of you who want a simple, easy to play, deck need not apply. This takes knowing the cards well, knowing priority two turns down the road, knowing when to and how to extort properly, intense mana pool management. Knowing when to block and knowing when to eat the damage.

Obszedat is still better than Lord of the Void, even if you cook him in your hand until turn 5. Lord is a little Esper-ish for my liking. And with the release of Dragon's Maze, the Tithe Drinker (2/1 Vampire, extort. Cost B,W) is a great replacement for Syndic of Tithes IF you feel like running a few more plains, or the Innistrad B/W land which I can never remember the name of.
But great use of the guildmage. Never though of using it with Exquisite for a (possible) 5th turn win.
And if you're bitching about using Orzhov because you have to keep in mind all your mana, switch to another guild. Orzhov is too op for your problems.
