Deck Description

Graveyard-based deck using the Bloodrush mechanic from Return to Ravnica to discard creatures into the graveyard and still gain strength and defense from them.

Comments welcome, I'm still working on the design for the deck.

How to Play

Begin with Vexing Devil and make your opponents choose between taking 4 life and sacrificing it or leaving it on the field to vex them further. If they choose the latter, start using the Bloodrush mechanic (Slaughterhorn, Wasteland Viper, Skinbrand Goblin or Ghor-Clan Rampager) on the devil to bulk it up for an early assault. If your opponent chooses to sacrifice the devil, then start out with Wasteland Viper and use that as the target for Bloodrush. In the meantime, bring out your Llanowar Mentors and sacrifice your Dawntreader Elk to generate some mana (use Llanowar Mentors to discard more creatures to your graveyard as well while giving you tokens to generate mana)

Once you have discarded enough cards, bring out your Splinterfrights or Boneyard Wurms (use Ghor-Clan Rampager on the wurms to give them trample for the turn) and begin the attack. Enchant Splinterfrights and Wurms with Wreath of Geists for a double boost straight from the graveyard, and discard Rubblehulks to give them a land-based boost as well for only 3 mana. In a bind, use Gnaw to the Bone, Moment's Peace and sacrifice Viridian Zealot to gain life, prevent combat damage and to destroy a pesky artifact or enchantment. Both Gnaw and Peace can be played from the graveyard so you can double their usage and Viridian Zealot is a creature that will add another +1/+1 to your Frights and Wurms.

Evolution Charm is the card to use if you want to re-Bloodrush a Splinterfright or Boneyard Wurm or if you need land or to get rid of a pesky flying creature. Add Reverberate or Increasing Vengeance to your deck if you want to double this spell and bring back more than one creature to Bloodrush on. While bringing a creature back will reduce the strength of your Splinterfrights and Wurms, using Bloodrush will add that +1/+1 back and give them an additional boost in strength beyond this and the Wreath of Geists. Ghor-Clan Rampager and Rubblehulk are the best cards to use in this situation.

Deck discussion for Gruul Graveyard

That's some sideboard, lol. The deck isn't bad and I like what you're doing with Vexing and Bloodrush. You should really think about cutting the sideboard down to 15 cards.

I know the sideboard is 15 cards max...however I am still tweaking this deck and I am using the sideboard as a dump for potential cards should I change the mechanic of the game. I will likely list a real sideboard in the description.

No I think the use of Bloodrush with Vexing is awesome as well as the use of the graveyard for Splinterfright.

I think that's where it's going to sit right now until I actually get the cards and play a few games with them...you never really know how it will work unless you play! I'm still debating on certain cards though, like Boneyard Wurm...it would be good for a graveyard deck and I could use some more main attackers but it doesn't have trample and it takes up space that could be used for creatures that go to the graveyard. Soooo many options...
