Deck Description

Abuse Tree of Redemption with Disciple of Griselbrand, Sheltering Word, Korozda Guildmage: Sacrifice Tree with Disciple for life equal to Tree's toughness (or just Sheltering Word it). Save your Tree with Undying Evil or replay it with Disentomb so you can switch its toughness with your life (usually upwards of 30 if you're fast) then sacrifice with Korozda for tons of tokens. What's that? You field-wipe my 30+ tokens? Have fun with that while Blood Artist is in play. Before you switch your life for your Tree's toughness, try to transform your Chalice of Life for a solid "Plan B" if token swarm doesn't work out. It shouldn't really be a problem, though, since you can always sacrifice all your tokens with Killing Wave or kill them with Golgari Charm for sick Blood Artist damage, or drop Predatory Rampage to swing with 4/4 Korozda saplings. If you don't mind slowing the deck down, consider switching Young Wolf for Parallel Lives. I consider Killing Wave and Predatory Rampage to be 100% interchangeable; whichever you decide to keep on side board is completely understandable.

Comments and/or suggestions are welcome.

How to Play

Your ideal match:
Turn 1 - Forest. Young Wolf.
Turn 2 - Woodland Cemetery. Blood Artist. Swing with Young Wolf (if it dies, fine).
Turn 3 - Swamp or Woodland Cemetery. Chalice of Life. Activate Chalice. Swing with Young Wolf(once again, it doesn't matter if it lives or dies).
Turn 4 - Forest, Swamp, or Woodland Cemetery. Tree of Redemption. Activate Chalice. Swing with Young Wolf if he's still in play.
Turn 5 - Forest, Swamp, or Woodland Cemetery. Korozda Guildmage. Target Tree of Redemption with Sheltering word for +13 life. Activate your Chalice of Life to transform it.
Turn 6 - Forest, Swamp, or Woodland Cemetery. Target Tree of Life with Sheltering Word again if you're lucky. Activate Chalice of Death. Activate Tree of Redemption to switch its toughness with your life. Sacrifice Tree of Redemption with Korozda Guildmage for 30+ saplings.

From here, you have several options:
Swing all tokens. You don't care if they die since Blood Artist is in play. Drop Predatory Rampage if possible.
Killing Wave or Golgari Charm to kill all your tokens, since Blood Artist is in play.
Activate Chalice of Death for a few turns and win.
Draw another Tree of Redemption or get it back with Disentomb. Rinse and repeat the strategy.

Keep in mind that this is just theory-crafting of your ideal match. Realistically, you won't draw your perfect hand often. Usually, you can sacrifice Tree of Redemption for 13+ tokens who can swing; especially if you have Blood Artist in play. Alternatively, you can sacrifice your tree for life so you can transform a Chalice or two for great damage every turn and quite possibly a win. At the very worst, cross your fingers and swing for the fences with Young Wolf.

Deck discussion for B/G Chalice of Redemption v2

seems like this deck really hinges on your ability to get a tree in play. why not add one or two jarads orders to up your chances of getting it?

Good idea, but hard to decide what to take out. Maybe -1 Undying Evil, -1 Disentomb, +2 Jarad's Orders?

Honestly, though, while it does rely on Tree a lot, you can have a decent game with just Chalice, Blood Artist, and suiciding creatures.

Feel free to call me a total noob, but I can pay X = 0 on Killing Wave and choose not to pay the 0 so all my tokens die, right? Just want to make sure of that.
