Deck Description

The name pretty much says it all, but I'm going to explain some of my card choices. For the most part, my version is pretty standard. I elected not to run Vampiric Fury. Although it can be an instant speed pump to get more damage through, or win in combat, I am running removal instead. Gutshot, especially means I can just pay 2 life, fry a blocker, and get through for damage anyway. Volt Charge is self explanatory, given that it is a vampire deck, and +1/1 counters will hopefully be around to proliferate. As for the Go For the Throats. Mono Black Infect is common in my meta, and I need a main deck answer to a Phyrexian Crusader.

Anyway, this is just a deck I've been brewing when I've been bored at work. If people want to comment, I would appreciate thoughts and suggestions, especially for the side board. Just bear in mind that this is for standard.

Deck discussion for Standard B/R Vampires

WELL..... This is going to be long. These are answers to just about everything in standard that you might run into. So yeah. Apologies for the length. Hope this helps....

May or may not want an answer to a few of the vampire hate or the more powerful artifacts that are in standard now. Maybe look into shatter? Pod decks hate having the pod go boom. Sideboard it in the least. Also pisses off those that use the overly expensive swords. (Or use crush if you don't care about hitting artifact creatures.)

Assault strobe isn't bad for piling on more damage. Wish it was an instant, but oh well.

An answer to werewolves would be a good idea. Ratchetbomb is good for that and for token decks. (So is steel hellkite for that matter, however.)

Add something that saps instead of straight up killing to get around indestructible? (Dismember, grasp of darkness.) Also gets rid of phyrexian obliterator without making you sac your stuff.

Bloodlord of Vaasgoth isn't bad if you can keep the damage piling up. He'll get your vamps bigger and in a hurry.

Crossway vampire would help get a blocker out of the way for a turn and leave a physical body. Panic spellbomb would suit the same purpose if you'd prefer not having the physical body.

Curse of stalked prey will pile on the +1/+1 counters quicker.

Slight spellbomb wouldn't be bad seeing as how a lot of your vamps are on the ground.

Nihil spellbomb is good against the current zombie decks that all play self mill and then play crap from their graveyard.

Those are my suggestions. If it helps, look at the deck I built soley to go against vampires and see if you can have an answer to whatever it throws at you. (It's not a very good deck, but it'll give you some ideas on what you might face in terms of vamp hate.) http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=264500

I do want to thank you for your comment, and it's no problem about the length. Starting at the top, I was considering a couple of Ratchet Bombs, to go with the Arc Trails, so I elected for them for the token/werewolf matchups. Dismember is always good, so I added a couple of them. I did consider the Bloodlord, but I also wanted to keep the curve on 4and under, making the build fast. On that same note, Crossway Vampire was one I strongly considered in place of the Bloodcrazed Neonate. I elected for the 2 drops, in the scenario that I can go creature turn 1, creature turn 2, Pay the life on turn 3 to Gut Shot a blocker, into either of my current 3 drop creatures, both of which end up with bigger creatures.

Curse of Stalked Prey is one I also considered, but I turned it down because it's bad for tempo. I'd rather play a creature on turn 2, especially if I didn't get the turn 1 Stromkirk Noble draw.

Nihil Spell Bomb is one I forgot about, but it's far from irrelevant at this point.

Again, thank you for your comments, and feel free to follow up with another one, as the sideboard is relatively final. Also note, that a friend talked me into Doom Blades main, to kill Wurmcoils and such, especially since a single Bloodline Keeper can keep said Phyrexian Crusader busy with tokens chump blocking all day long.

I'm still thinking that you need an answer to artifacts that aren't creatures. Pod gets messy in a hurry and slowing down the process by killing the creature it makes is only temporary unless you can rush in for the kill in under about 5 turns.... Shatter is beautiful in that it wreaks havoc on artifact decks (And with mirrodin still in standard, there are a lot of artifacts to hate on.) and can work as a kill spell for the creatures that come out as artifacts as well. I think it'd improve your deck a bit. Just a thought.

And I wouldn't worry overly much about a crusader when you're playing a color that they don't screw over. Sure they're still a pain in the dick, but not unbeatable. A simple double block with the tokens will get rid of it.

Yeah, I ended up putting the Doom Blades in the main. My friend put up a good case for it, and it's worth testing at the very least. As for the artifacts, I have 3 copies of Shatter in the side board. I could go up to 4 if I took out the Nihil Spellbombs, also adding a 4th Arc Trail.
