Deck Description

This was based off an idea of mine to make a deck that with only red spells had a legitimate chance of milling its opponent to death. The basic premise is simple, it uses creatures and effects that cause the opponent to redraw their hand. Thus causing them to discard and mill as it also threatens the opponent life total. I still need to play test this deck... a lot... and I know there are tweaks to be made, but I think this is a good jumping off point for people who want to explore the theme.

Card Choices:

Shocker: The inspiration for this deck, its ability to make my opponent discard and redraw his hand is very potent. The main problem is his one one nature making the red zone a dangerous place.

Barbed Shocker: The redesign of shocker, again a bit light in the body department so I have to have ways of dealing with that.

Firewhip: Very strong when attached to a Shocker as pinging the opponent will cause them to redraw since the shocker ability triggers off all damage, not just combat. And you can sac the wipe to make them redraw twice in a single turn.

Shah of Naar Isle: Since many of my effect rely on my opponent having a large hand and because this guy is otherwise...not that good, I decided to include him. He's also good for just bludgeoning my opponent with a 6/6 trampler.

Dragon Mage: The Top of the decks curve, he can either swing for the win or further increase my opponents redrawing. That and he's a Dragon Wizard!

Mikokoro: Like the Shah I can use it to keep my opponents hand full and it nets me cards too. Also, the instant speed means I can play it on my opponents end step and get first access to the cards

Lightning Bolt: With this card finally seeing reprint, I had to include it as the go-to burn spell.

Book Burning: This card is a very nice opener. Generally its mill six for two which isn't terrible. I'd be surprised if the opponent took the six but they might. And if they do this deck doens't lack for ways to finish such an opponent with 14 life on turn two.

Incendiary Command: A card that wins out on flexibility alone. It can redraw my opponents hand, something I'm looking to do anyway, It can be a scorching missle. It can pyroclasm. It can even destroy a nonbasic. And being able to do two of those things is even better.

Wheel of Fate: Another very nice card that keeps hands full and freshly drawn. I dream of it coming out of suspension when I'm echoing a Shah and have a fire whipped Shocker in play. (for those keeping score that would cause the opponent to draw up to 30 cards that turn).

Spiteful Visions: This is a card I am uncertain about. Part of me wants to go with the cheaper howling mine. However the two drop slot is saturated as is. Another part wants to go with the similarly price Font of Mythos. However I like the fact that spiteful Visions allows me to continue my life total threat in addition to shrinking my opponents deck size. The problem, of the damage I receive is also noted, and depending on how much damage I take during play testing I might switch it out for just this reason. I'm also thinking about changing it out in favor of more burn or Arcane Teachings which would fulfill the double benefit of being another way for the shockers to deal damage to my opponent as well as putting them out of range of my own pyroclasm/incendiary commands.

Other cards:

Blue: Blue has a lot it can offer this deck. I kept them out because off my desire to retain the deck's mono-red nature as part of the decks flavor but there are many great cards. Off the top of my head. Jace works great as another howling mind effect that can eventually explode. Quick silver dagger gives you a method of pinging that grants net cards. Also it grants you Cereberal Vortex, which, when player immediately after wheel of Fate, hits for 9.

Sudden Impact Effects: Since the deck wants large hands anyway, you might toss in some sudden impacts to allow you to turn that into burn.

Deck discussion for Mono-Red...Mill

Wowa, I like the idea of this deck. I think I like it enough to buy the cards. :P I showed it to a friend and he recommends using Flame Fusillade to help with the Fire Whip. I think that's a great idea. You should at least put it in the sideboard.
