Deck Description

The megrim/memory jar combo deck ran by Beuhler has to be one of my favorite decks of all time. This is my attempt at making it affordable (even though it is not legal in any sanctioned format -.- )
Replaced cards are in Sideboard:
Lion's Eye Diamond (didn't want to but it's way too expensive) = Serum Powder
Brainstorm = Ponder
Underground Sea = Watery Grave

Help and suggestions are much appreciated!

How to Play

For anyone who isn't familiar with the deck's strategy, here it is:

You want to get your mana out fast with lotus petals, mox diamonds, dark rituals, and mana vaults.

Next, you should get a tinker out on one of your artifacts (preferably a tapped mana vault), or brainstorm to try to retrieve one.

Search for memory jar, put it into play then use it.
(Note: any lion's eye diamonds you have should be used now so you will have mana waiting for your new hand)

You will want to try to repeat this process with your new hand and retrieve more memory jars.

NOTE: The win strategy is MEGRIM when the end of turn trigger activates on your memory jars, your opponent is forced to discard their full hand. So keep in mind while your searching through your deck with/for memory jars, you will need to tutor for a megrim at some point. You will want to drop a DEFENSE GRID before you play megrim. This usually activates early so your opponent will be forced to counter defense grid or counter nothing at all, this will (usually) empty their hand of responses to your megrim, so they cannot prevent it from comming into play. YAWGMOTH'S WILL is used if either your megrim is dealt with or you are in need of mana, it allows you to replay all of your mana generators.

Deck discussion for Cheaper Broken Jar

Thoughts on serum powder? I personally don't like it, but there has to be something there, and there's really nothing to compare to LED in for this particular deck that i've found :/

Should probably explain how the deck works, it's not the simplest combo to see. I'll look up some replacements later

The point is to get memory jars out and make the opponent discard cards while megrim is on the field so they take large amounts of damage. Defense grid for stalling.

The swap has been brought up, lol. It has no real impact on the deck, though, and It was played this way originally so I just never changed it. Granted, If I were to make a solid proxy i would probably slap it in.

Given the truly broken nature of this deck, and since any sound minded individual would play this with mostly proxies, I'd just say screw the budget and do your best to ensure a Turn 1 win. This is my deck, basically the deck that would be born if High Tide made love to Broken Jar. http://www.mtgvault.com/drizzlebaby/decks/the-most-broken-deck/

My suggestions are this if you decide not to go cheap: Add Black Lotus of course, it's just too good to ignore. Voltaic key helps to untap the Mana Vault and increase the likely-hood of a Turn 1 Jar (This combo creates 5 mana as long as you have a land or a source for that adds one extra mana). Lastly, I've thought about this a lot, and if you are running Black Lotuses then Enlightened Tutor is better than Dark Ritual. You're trying to float as much mana as possible and never end your turn right from the beginning, so just about every card should support that plan. Ancestral Recall is great for this too of course.
