This deck is a clone of Magecraft (Codie) v3 by magicalmtgmagic.

How to Play

This is a wonky budget combo deck revolving around ramping up Umara with Codex, and finishing it off with fortifying draught played on stack into inscription (so inscription resolves first but both trigger Umara).

Alt wins: Inscription of Insight for the X/X and Mascot / Shackles to steal powerful creatures

You need:
Umara on board before codex.
1 Shackles of Treachery
1 Shackles of Treachery or Mascot Interception
A certain amount of mana (see below)

Generally, you tap 4 to activate codex, play mascot or shackles on codex to untap it, and use 4 mana to activate codex again, and continue. There are a couple of ways it could play out and they are listed below.

p = play; b = board; otherwise indicates continuation of Codie

* you need at least 7 mana available to make the combo happen
% you need at least 6 mana available


*p_mascot-shackles: spell; 5 mana; +4

-b_fortifying-p_shackles: inscription; 3 mana; +6: fortifying -> kick inscription = s27

-b_inscription-p_shackles: fortifying; 3 mana; +6: fortifying -> kick inscription = s27


*p_mascot-b_fortifying-p_shackles: inscription; 2 mana; +4: fortifying -> inscription = s20

*p_mascot-b_inscription-p_shackles: fortifying; 2 mana; +4: fortifying -> inscription = s20


%p_shackles-b_fortifying-p_shackles: inscription; 3 mana; +4: fortifying -> kick inscription = s24

%p_shackles-b_inscription-p_shackles: fortifying; 3 mana; +4: fortifying -> kick inscription = s24


if fortifying xor inscription is in hand, play the same as above, with possibly the removal of the kicked spell.

if fortifying and inscription are in hand, you have to tap Codie twice (with either mascot or shackles (preferably mascot-shackles))
to get the second green mana and play 4 cards total to swing for at least 20.
