Deck Description

This is a simple, affordable mono black deck. In this deck I have the 3 matching cards, bogbrew witch, bubbling cauldron and festering newt. This deck has a light theme of sacrifice, with festering newt, and liliana's reaver/ ogre slumlord giving tokens to sacrifice.

This deck is designed to stay in standard after innistrad and m13 rotate.

How to Play

You use the combo of festering newt, bogbrew and cauldron to get rid of their creatures with power 4 or less, while also gaining life and the opponent losing life in the process. I also added dark prophecy to this deck for if you would sacrifice any tokens that liliana's or slumlord produce. All around You would be wearing the opponent down while not letting them keep any of their creatures. By then you should also have nightmare out, which would be a big creature with flying, so the opponent would be dead in a matter of turns.

Deck discussion for Simple, Cheap, Mono Black

Doesn't work as pauper, but have you played it against the current metagame?

Could a Duress work to disrupt the enemy? It may be helpful to prevent being defeated in early parts of the game.

Thats a tough question! I would either swap out Slate Street Ruffian or Nightmare. Slate Street Ruffian is good, but is easily dealt with as its a 2/2, and Duress lets you see their hand, instead of letting them get rid of a useless card. Nightmare is good as well, but is expensive on the mana curve. Hopefully this helps!!

Duress is a budget Thoughtseize. The only downside is you don't get to choose a creature

Gray Merchant of Asphotel (or something like that). It's used in ALL Black Devotion decks
