Deck Description

Innistrad Duel Decks, based on popular Block Constructed decks. These deck are aimed for semi-new players looking to learn how decks tick, and casual players who just want fun decks. Key concepts covered by this deck: Building for Synergy, Importance of Removal, Sequencing.

This deck, based off of the Wx Humans deck that was popular throughout the format, is paired against a U/G dredge deck. As the deck is supposedly tuned to be played against U/G dredge, there are a number of usually sideboard-only cards that are in this deck, such as Thraben Heretic and Smite the Monstrous.

The deck is not as aggressive nor as mana hungry as the original decks were (less Silverblade Paladins, not splashing red for Zealous Conscripts or Hellriders), as most of the cut cards were due to the deck being able to out-aggro the U/G one. Hopefully there is still enough fun packed in there to make the games interesting - the Humans deck still has late game options if the U/G deck is able to stop the initial rush of humans, but less of a chance. Mentor of the Meek and Thraben Heretic hopefully should be able to give the deck decent lategame against the U/G deck, should it go longer than normal, while removal in the deck is low enough so that getting rid of the key pieces is at least somewhat difficult.

The altered card in this deck is Mikaeus, the Lunarch, showing off the weenie nature of the deck as well as being the only Mythic in the deck.

How to Play

Difficulty: 2/10
Matchup Against Pair: 80-20.
Very easy to play aggressive deck. Some minor mana management and sequencing decisions make it an interesting but powerful deck for newer players. Removal is fairly straightforward, not prone to getting blown out unless there is a very strong Sever the Bloodline. The deck you're up against takes a couple of turns to set up, so you start off with a very strong advantage.

The name of the deck is to be as aggressive as possible, in order to squeeze in as much damage to the point where the other deck cannot possibly stabilize. Ideally, you want to keep a hand with a couple lands and at least one Champion of the Parish, as that is your main tool early on to deal lots of damage, as well as the only creature that can get large enough to fight their Wurms and Ghoultrees head-on. An important tool to have with you is Thraben Heretic - as a simple 2/2 human that can slowly (but surely) shut down their gameplan with their larger creatures, landing a single one on T2 can be devastating to them. Save the spot removal for cards like Ghoultree or Kessig Cagebreakers, as the Humans deck has a lot of trouble dealing with a 10/10 or a swarm of wolves.

Thraben Heretic is your way of coming back from a full graveyard; if you can keep up the chump blocking, you can slowly whittle away your opponent's power until you can storm on through for the win. If your opponent reaches that point, however, the game is usually decided very quickly as your army of humans cannot outrace a swarm of 2/2 Wolves created by a single Cagebreaker, and without a constant stream of cards via Mentor of the Meek or a tactical hit taken to turn on Fateful Hour for Thraben Doomsayer, the game will be over very quickly.

This deck is overall very strong compared to its opponent, and efforts have been made to slow or power it down while keeping the core parts of the deck - Champion of the Parish, Silverblade Paladin, and other human tribal - intact.
