Deck Description

This deck has won 1st place two weeks in a row at my local FNM, against as many as 30 other players.

Nothing really to explain about RDW. You put down fast creatures and attack.

In the sideboard is Pithing Needle to deal with planeswalkers and AEtherling, Act of Treason to take advantage of large bombs like Desecration Demon (this has worked countless times), Skullcrack for against lifegain or if you need extra burn, Smelt to deal with Whip of Erebos, and Electrickery for tokens.

Deck discussion for Hasty RDW

I like it all but the Shred-Freaks, I would imagine he just dies most of the time, maybe landing a hit or so before death. I would personally replace them with Boros Reckoners for this deck design, a solid 3 drop that provides control and burn to complement the theme of this deck. Looks really fast and sick though and very similar to mine, but I run Gruul RDW. This is mine if you wanna check it out. http://www.mtgvault.com/drizzlebaby/decks/standard-turn-3-rdw-gruul/

He isn't so bad. Not as good as Ash Zealot of course, but it's good enough for a creature slot in this deck. It's always a decent target for Madcap Skills or Titan's Strength, aside from very likely dealing 2 damage right when it comes out. If it dies after the first few hits, oh well.

Actually, the Shred-Freaks probably get through more often than anything else. Since it's one of the smaller threats, the opponent is always killing/blocking the Zealots and Phoenixes, while letting the Shred-Freak go, still dealing the same amount of damage as a Zealot or Phoenix.

I'm not going to add Boros Reckoner, first because I don't have $100, and second because I designed this deck to be the fastest RDW possible, and Boros Reckoner would make the deck not nearly as fast. Haste was the theme for this one, but I have just about everything I need to build a slower style one with Burning-Trees and Pyromancers.

Anyway, your deck looks nice. I might switch out one or two Temples for more mountains since they might stop you from putting down something important. Have you considered Gruul War Chant or Chandra's Phoenix?

Other than what I already said, the only other issue I have with the Shred-Freak is that if you have a Shred-Freak and an Ash Zealot in your starter hand, it makes much more sense to play Shred-Freak as your Turn 2 over Ash Zealot because you want to get as much damage as possible in with the Freak before it dies, but this pushes your Ash Zealot to a Turn 3 instead. I'd just rather play Ash Zealot as normal on Turn 2 and have the Reckoner in hand for Turn 3. Agreed he's probably overpriced but I traded for my set and didn't get ripped off too bad. I get what you're saying though, this isn't mid-range in any way, you are going for earliest possible victory in each game, I just like that splash of mid for this deck design in case you get a cold draw or your opponent stalls you out somehow.

And I'm right there with you on the Temples, I hate that they are slow and I miss Rootbound Crag, but it's better than a guildgate and adds a small degree of hand-fixing. The only reason I am forced to run them is because in order to cast Zhur-Taa, Ghor-Clan, and Savageborn I need more than just the Burning-Trees and shock lands since it's purely a RDW mana set up. And the reason I had to do that is to ensure Turn 2 Ash Zealots and Turn 3 Reckoners. I have considered the War Chant but I haven't play tested it yet so I don't know how well it would work. Seems good, but maybe a little slow and it's a creature not in hand. Chandra's Phoenix won't work here either, it's decent but I don't run any burn except one spell and that's mostly for creature control so I won't have any way to get the Phoenix back. I'll definitely give the War Chant a try and see how well it goes.

IMO, a 2/2 with flying and haste for 3 mana is already really good, regardless of how many burn spells you're running. I'd include Phoenix even if I was running no burn at all. But whatever.
