Deck Description

This deck's strategy involves different merfolk cards.

How to Play

Auger of Bolas can be put down on turn 2 to find one of the 16 instants/sorceries in this deck, increasing your card advantage. He also gives you some early defense.

Talrand gives you a bunch of drakes. Three drakes at once when you cast Talrand's Invocation. If you plan on casting Talrand, I would recommend holding back as many instants/sorceries as possible until you cast him, so that you will get as many drakes as possible.

Master of the Pearl Trident is pretty much the reason for all your creatures to be merfolk. If your opponent controls an island, winning should be pretty easy since all your creatures are now pumped and unblockable.

Scroll thief is there for Master of the Pearl Trident. Assuming he is unblockable, that's 2 damage and a card.

Simic Fluxmage to make your unblockable merfolk even more powerful. It's best to move +1/+1 counters whenever you can, so that Simic Fluxmage continues to evolve.

Stormtide Leviathan opens a window for your merfolk if your opponent doesn't control an island, cause now he does. And if he doesn't get rid of Stormtide Leviathan quickly, he's screwed.

Dissipate and Blustersqual add some control to the deck. Divination is there to get you cards, and Talrand's Invocation is there to get you drakes.

In the sideboard is Kraken Hatchling for early defense against decks like RDW. If your opponent doesn't have islands in his deck, the first match probably didn't go so well unless you managed to get Stormtide out. But now you can put out Realmwright (choosing island) and use Switcheroo to make him control islands, while possibly taking a nice creature. Negate in case you need more counterspells.

Deck discussion for Merfolk

I like this deck good, but there is just one problem. Master of the Pearl Trident gives other Merfolk you control +1/+1, but not in the form of counters. If it did it would say, other Merfolk creatures you control get +1/+1 counters on it and have islandwalk. So you can't use Simic Fluxmage to move the +1/+1 Master provides because they are not counters.

That being said, I really like Stormtide Leviathan in this deck. He fits really well and is a win if he comes out. Blustersquall and Dissipate will help you control the game until he does, but I think you can sub out the Divination for Unsummon which will allow to kick a creature back to its owners hand and put him a turn behind.

Your Realmwright Switcheroo combo is a great idea and you should try to mainboard it. You can sub out the Fluxmage for the Realmwright and you can probably drop down to 20 land to add the Switcheroo.

Just some suggestions. Great deck. Good luck.

Thanks. Simic Fluxmage has nothing to do with Master of the Pearl Trident's ability though.

God I'm an idiot. Sorry for the useless post, I should have read your post more closely. I've been seeing a lot Merfolk decks coming out lately, but I like this one the best. Your choice of cards are always allowing you do something, keeping you either in control of the game or beefing your creatures and battlefield up.

Is this a deck you own or just an idea you for a deck? If you own it I would like to know how you do with it? Cause I Judy may build it myself. Great job, again sorry for earlier post.

No, this was just an idea I had. I am considering buying it though. It's looking pretty powerful.

I'm rebuilding this deck in a magic the gathering multiplayer online game. I'll post here how well it does.
