Deck Description

A deck that I tried to pack with neat little combos. It wins by attacking with cheap creatures. I have played with this deck, and honestly, I don't think I've ever had so much fun playing Magic.

How to Play

Combos include:

Put down Memnite/Ornithopter, then Pongify/Rapid Hybridization it for a turn one 3/3.

Put down Memnite/Ornithopter, then put down Faerie Impostor and return Memnite/Ornithopter, and then put it back down.

If you have no other creatures, you can put down Faerie Impostor, then in response to its ability, Pongify/Hybridization it. You now have a 3/3.

Chump block something, then Rapid Hybridization the chump blocker in response. You can also do this to save an attacking creature.

Pongify/ Rapid Hydridization an opponent's creature, then Vapor Snag the token.

Pongify/Rapid Hybridization a Surveilling Sprite to draw a card and get a 3/3. Do it to a Stormbound Geist to get a 3/3 and give the Geist a boost.

Attack with Ornithopter, then replace it with Ninja of the Deep Hours, then put Ornithopter right back down.

Attack with Faerie Impostor and replace it with Ninja. Then put Impostor back down and return Ninja. Can be repeated endlessly turn after turn.

Use Familiar's Ruse to counter a spell and also return Ornithoper/Memnite, which you can put back down next turn. You can also return a Ninja, or a Geist to remove its +1/+1 counter.

Isochron Scepter is pretty sweet with anything. Return creatures and cause loss of life constantly with Vapor Snag. Or Hybridization/Pongify anything that attacks. Or counter everything with Familiar's Ruse

Deck discussion for Turn One 3/3

if youre not concerned with tournament legality, Thalakos Seer is a great combo with Pongify/Mutation and Faerie Imposter, much better than the bear which would die if you tried to do anything, countering the spell to give you 3/3.

Familiar's Ruse is a good card here, return the ornithropter/memnite for a counterspell or return the Geist to get rid of that counter so you can "kill" it again or (if you use him) return the Seer for a card.

I would prefer to keep it Modern legal. Familiar's Ruse is a great idea though, especially now that I added ninjas. Thanks.

I feel Snapcaster Mage could easily find a place in this deck

Agreed, Snapcaster would be perfect, more 3/3s and you can bounce him for even more

It would definitely be a good card to add, although that would increase the price of the deck by $100. I really like how such a cool deck is only around $10.

"Elite Arcanist", or "Isochron Scepter" would be a nice touch. As suggested above, I also believe "Snapcaster Mage" would be a beautiful card. Cool deck, I like it a lot!

Isochron is a great idea. I'll try to fit it somewhere.

really love the deck, drew some sample hands and works great. maybe as a sideboard, you could use halimar depths and index, which both let you stack your deck in case of mana problems or not getting cards at the right time.

Unfortnunately (while a cool idea) this deck really isn't modern viable. The idea of using pongify and hybridization on 0 cost creatures seems mana effective, but you will have a big problem keeping your hand full enough to consistently make creatures. Sure, you may get one or two early turn 3/3's, but this isn't legacy. That strategy won't work without the correct spells to back up the tempo plan. And if you are looking for all out aggro, gruul and naya do it MUCH better without worrying about emptying their entire hand just to meet an abrupt decay and a path.

I don't mean to be a downer, but this is a casual deck. Removal in modern is too good for a couple 3/3's to beat in for a kill.
Cute idea though..

3/3 tokens aren't the only things attacking. You also have Impostors, Memnites, Ninjas, Stormbound Geists, and Surveilling Sprites. And this isn't really all-out aggro, it's supposed to usually be played in a more control style, with you Pongifying and/or Vapor Snagging your opponent's creatures, countering stuff with Familiar's Ruse, and chump blocking with Surveilling Sprite. Also Isochron Scepter with any of this deck's instants can be crazy.

Still, there's a good chance that it is in fact not Modern viable. But I wouldn't say that for sure.

Again, i don't want to be rude, but I have a bit of experience with modern, and while this may pick up the occasional win at your lgs, it really isn't very good... The deck can't focus on control because it lacks major control cards, and there's no getting around the fact that you will be topdecking from turn 3 on. There's no efficient way to refill your hand in this deck and that is a huge detriment.

yeah between lightning bolt, path, helix most modern legal decks can answer your 2:1 combo unfortunately, it is neat but more of a kitchen table deck, where in magical christmas land you would cobom out with no interaction from your opponent in a format that has ALL the tools to just ignore and go over the top or stop the combo completely

I too am finding that I run out of cards quickly and have too many low attack/toughness creatures to really do much to my opponent. Any suggestions for a couple replacements that are still modern legal, budget, but give us a little bit more strength in the game?

A nice combo is also young wolf/experiment one/rapid hybridisation in standard, t1 experiment, t2 wolf and rapid on it, attack with experiment for 3 and have another 3/3 and a 2/2 on the board

There isn't a single rare... that's what pauper is.

False. Pauper is only commons. There is a format (called peasant, no one plays it) that allows both commons and uncommons.
Although I'd venture to say this deck would struggle to compete even in that format...

This was before they made that stupid rule.

0

Rules not really stupid, it keeps the pages clear of clutter from people like this who dont know how to tag decks accurately

0

There really is no reason for that rule to exist. If someone clutters up their own page, that's their problem.

0
Posted 20 October 2013 at 04:20

There is a reason for that: If there is no limit, people tend pile dozens of tags to their decks, sometimes tags that aren't fitting, just to get more hits and attention.
