Deck discussion for Cephalid Midnight Snack~

Took me a long time to realize the win condition. But it's very cool once I found out.

Awesome... I can't find anything to add to this. You've put together a broad variety of colors and made them respond well with each other. Although this will most likely only be built by Bill Gates, nice job none-the-less !

What a work of art. This is just superb. It's the first time for me to see a deck like this.
Wow this is a Johnny Deck but it's really well rounded with your Sideboard/Living wish synergy.

I think I wanna' build this deck.

You probably have seen a build where the win-condition is attacking or targeting opponents with high amount of damage. Well, the good thing about this one is, you don't need to attack or target anything. Making it less susceptible to prevention and whatnot. Hope you could share your ideas anytime. I seriously need situations for this deck so that I could find a way to make this more well-rounded. Thanks btw~

Cool, I haven't seen an even remotely original take on Cephalid Breakfast in a long time! Self-mill is one of the coolest strategies there is, and this is a very interesting win condition to get out of it.

I like how you included an idea to help people setup budget versions, it's nice for newer players to see something like that so they can get a better idea of how to play a deck without fully committing.

And if it's suggestions you're looking, I'm always a fan of Force of Will in anything Blue for Legacy. And if you can get your hands on them, finishing your playset for Worldly Tutor would be good. Perhaps something like this?
-4 Pacts, +4 FoW
-1 Eldamri's Call, -1 Living Wish, +2 Worldly Tutors?

Thanks.
I'll playtest FOW instead of Pacts. Most of the time, pacts are always good when my opponent knows that I'm going for the kill. FOW is also good, but I'm kinda worried that I only have 7-10 other blue cards (excluding the blue combo pieces). But I'll definitely look into that by playtesting.

One thing that I really hated about Worldly tutor is that it puts the tutored card on top of the library. Eladamri's call / living wish on the other hand would put it directly to your hand for one extra mana. And I just love living wish so much, I can tutor the combo pieces out of the sideboard, maybe Bojuka bog for grave hate, or even meddling mage / phyrexian revoker for stalls.

But I get your point and I think you have much more experience than me, so I:
-1 Living Wish
+1 worldly tutor
For the meantime I'll do that, but I'll surely playtest your suggestion.
Btw, I'm always excited to read your comments (if there is) on my deck ^^,

Yeah, it's good to be skittish with a blue count like you have, but it's something that's usually worth testing at least.

And I can understand how you feel about Worldly Tutor, I'm abusing it in one of my Vintage decks, and to get myself satisfied with it I have to use Gitaxian Probe. It's more of a suggestion because it's a turn faster, or more like half a turn. It truly is a powerful effect to have a creature dumped into your hand.

And don't doubt your instincts so much Mashitta, even with any experience I might have, it's your deck ultimately, and it's you will learn what's optimal for it :)
And I'm flattered to hear you think that way, and I'm sorry I haven't posted many. I've been busy lately, and I've only this weekend had time to do anything :|

Pardon my potential incorrectness, but how exactly are you targeting your cephalids? It says to redirect damage, yet there's no damage to redirect. Are you allowed to repeatedly redirect 0 damage to something? Other than that, looks extremely creative and totally awesome.

Well, you might have read the old wordings MTG used to have. To make it a little clear, its new oracle text says:
"0: The next 1 damage that would be dealt to Nomads en-Kor this turn is dealt to target creature you control instead."
And it actually says "Next 1 Damage", assuming it is still a a legal target, you can technically target another creature instantly as many times as yo want before anything happens.
Hope it helps.

wouldn't hapless reasearcher have summoning sickness? I am trying to find other combos for cephalid breakfast. I like the kiki jiki + sky hussar. I no longer like suture goul. I rather go with mimeoplasm + invisible stalker + lord of extinction. Any other ideas let us know

3

Not actually summoning sickness. Summoning Sickness is a term to describe the inability of creatures to attack or use activated abilities with the tap symbol in them on the turn they come into play. Hapless researcher's triggered ability is completely free of summoning sickness. Hope that answered the question.
And btw, Mimeoplasm + invisible stalker / triskellion + lord of extinction is also a good winning condition. But the problem is, what if the opponent have a card on board like Peacekeeper, maybe rune of protection, or even condemn? That's really bad for you.
My winning condition doesn't need to attack nor target a player/creature. You're completely safe of all hindrances that can be made by your opponent. Hope that help. Thanks Leonidus78!

Very cool concept. I'd like to try the low cost version...
I'm trying to understand how Shuko mimics the Nomad and Shaman en-kor's?

Shuko = Equipped Creature gets +1/+0

Nomad and Shaman en-kor's = new oracle text says: "0: The next 1 damage that would be dealt to Nomads en-Kor this turn is dealt to target creature you control instead." And it actually says "Next 1 Damage", assuming it is still a a legal target, you can technically target another creature instantly as many times as yo want before anything happens.

Considering you are using the new oracle text for the card, how does Shuko replace the en-kor's ability to target damage and begin the mill process?

3
Posted 14 August 2012 at 07:01

It actually has nothing to do with the en-Kor's abilities other than that they're a way to repeatedly target Cephalid Illusionist. Shuko has an equip cost of 0, so you just bounce it between creatures(there is no real unequip function), and that triggers Cephalid Illusionist's ability.

4
Posted 14 August 2012 at 11:31

WhiteandBlueTheyKillYou said it all. Shuko can even bounce on the same creature repeatedly. You just need to pay it's activation cost which is 0. You're targeting your creature while equipping the Shuko's ability. That causes the Cephalid Illusionist to put 3 cards from your library to your graveyard repeatedly. There's another equip artifact called lightning greaves but you needed 2 creatures to bounce back repeatedly.

Thanks WhiteandBlueTheyKillYou!
Thanks Brain408!
