Deck Description

mono-black revolving around a proto-type deck with Phyrexian Obliterators

---------------------------------------
Version 1.1 Update
---------------------------------------

I build this deck out of the current cards i own. After quite a few play-tests against various decks, ranging from hands i had such as lack of mana, lack of creatures, full of destruction spells and even top-decking, this deck has prevailed against some rather good deck builds. While the deck is supposed to co-exist with having a playset of Phyrexian Obliterators, i made due with what i had to experiment with a build similar to what i had in mind.

NEW CARDS!

Lashwrithe - I was suggested by a friend to input this into my deck. Reading that its power comes from swamps, I felt that this card can provide me a temporary creature, while powering up my weaker ones later in the game. Lashwrithe has been a highly successive addition to my deck.

Phyrexian Metamorph - 4 mana shapeshifter that can enter turn 3? great for mirroring my opponent's creatures or surprise them with a clone of Lashwrithe or another Phyrexian Obliterator. many different possibilities!

Massacre Wurm - as i mentioned before, i was looking for other threats to add into my deck that can help not only clear the field, but create another threat against the player. Massacre Wurm was the answer. while phyrexian obliterators are the fastest way to win with this deck, a turn 6 creature that removes smaller creatures and deals direct damage as a result works wonders as a primary target in the future.

Sheoldred, Whispering One - I don't know why she was not part of my original deck build and only a sideboard... Perhaps at the time she was too expensive, maybe too high of a threat in my own build? being wrong has never felt so enlightening.

Painful Quandary - Slows the opponent, end of story (a deck filler that will be replaced with two more obliterators shortly)

Surgical Extraction - Costs one mana, or even no mana at all, to remove any future destroy threats against your creatures. highly important cards against fellow go for the throats and counterspells. sideboard more depending on how heavy your threats are.

POSSIBLE NEWCOMERS

Sorin Markov - I have one, and have been suggested to use him to his fullest extent. Through playtesting, i can keep the field under control up until i can get the mana to pay for him, he can possibly make up for the losses i have payed for early in the match. Expect him to be an addition to my deck soon.

Morbid Plunder - This card could be a sideboard addition to my build. It really depends on how my deck works out in the future, but i have not had a problem with creatures leaving the field just yet so i don't expect it to be a "must-see" card in play, but is considered.

Memoricide - Same reason behind Surgical Extraction, just more expensive and does not target the graveyard. Possibly a sideboard

----------------------------------------------
Version 1.0
----------------------------------------------

the deck is simply built to:
- drop down the creatures that build in strength late game (Mortician Beetle)
- provide a quick blow to life count on turn one with a pesky 2/1 (Vampire Lacerator)
- control the field from potential threats (Royal Assassin, Vampire Nighthawk, Gatekeeper of Malakir)
- key cards that power up your 1/1's with +1/+1 counters (Geth's Verdict, Phyrexian Obliterator, Gatekeeper
of Malakir
- provide potential pre-game assaults and game enders (Start: Chancellor of the Dross, End: Chancellor of
the Dross, Phyrexian Obliterator)

This deck is meant to be played with speed; hit them hard and fast, in order to control the field until you can get the game ending cards in play.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tips:
- start by dropping a vampire lacerator on turn one, providing a quick 2/1 for the cost of 1 life at your upkeep

- play mortician beetle whenever possible. many cards in this deck are meant to sacrifice both creatures
and permanents your opponent's control

- Phyrexian Obliterators are powerful 5/5 trample creatures for 4 black mana. play them wisely

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cons i foresee with this deck:

- while many of these creatures are small, opponents may be wise to save their destruction spells on your
phyrexian obliterators. Decks that mill your library, exiles such as memoricide and surgical extraction,
Black deck's Go for the Throats and other disabling cards can remove your phyrexian obliterator's quickly
from play and drop your chances of victory rather quickly. My goal is to try and create other problems that
the opponent has to deal with other than the Obliterators, making this deck seem much more playable.

- So far, this deck is only speculation and built around theory that it may work. I have most of these cards
and i can fill the gaps quickly with proxies until i have my collection. Expect changes to be made soon.
