Deck Description

This is a Yarok, the Desecrated Commander deck which focuses on generating mana to cast Villainous Wealth or abuse a few combos within the deck. I tried to focus the deck on racking up huge amounts of mana while staying within a reasonable budget but still being able to win.

How to Play

With this deck, you want to abuse Yarok's effect to pull a ton of lands as quickly as possible from your library and then abuse one of the combos or cast a huge Villainous Wealth. Keep in mind that anything we do with ETB effects is essentially netting us a two-for-one in terms of value.

Since Yarok has a pretty unique and ultimately exploitable effect, we can shirk a traditional mana rock set-up in favor of creatures that pull lands directly from the deck, generation a large amount of value in the process. Some of the cards that help us do this are:

Wild Wanderer
Ondu Giant
Quirion Trailblazer
Yavimaya Granger
Coiling Oracle
Springbloom Druid
Risen Reef

Once we ramp, it will allow us to quickly filter through our deck with our stack of draw cards. Again, we want to circumvent traditional cantrips in favor of cards which allow us to best use Yarok's ETB effect. We can do this with cards like:

Disciple of Bolas
Elvish Visionary
Fblthp, the Lost
Mulldrifter
Rogue Refiner
Wall of Blossoms
Tatyova, Benthic Druid
Sire of Stagnation
Notion Thief

Now that we have tons of mana and an overflowing hand, what do we do with it? Well hopefully, we've been able to draw into Villainous Wealth or one of our win conditions. Villainous Wealth is pretty self-explanatory but we also have some combos we can work with:

The Great Aurora + Notion Thief = Resetting our opponent's board states to nothing while drawing most, if not all, of our own library

Dream Stalker + Peregrine Drake/Cloud of Faeries = Infinite mana (Peregrine also untaps 10 with Yarok in play, Faeries untaps 4)
+ Gray Merchant of Asphodel = Infinite life loss for opponents, life gain for us
+ Cauldron Familiar = Infinite life loss for opponents, life gain for us
+ Manic Scribe = Infinite mill to our opponents
+ Meteor Golem = Permanently locked board state
+ Riftwing Cloudstake = Permanently locked board state (which additionally gets around Indestructible and clears your opponent's lands)
+ Eternal Witness/Archaeomancer = Infinite Villainous Wealth casts (you can also use this combo to infinitely cast any of our other spells)
+ Aethersphere Harvester + Gonti's Aether Heart + Mastermind's Acquisition + Archaeomancer = Infinite extra turns

There are plenty of win conditions in the deck and no shortage of draw but what happens if, after all our preparation, we fail to pick up a win con? I've included some cards that may be unassuming at first but will help is immensely in grabbing any pieces we don't have:

+ Brainspoil (Transmute) will allow us to grab any 5 CMC card we don't have (like Peregrine, Riftwing Cloudstake or Gray Merchant)

+ Dimir Machinations, Perplex (Transmute) are going to help us grab Aethersphere Harvester, Eternal Witness or another 3 CMC utility

+ Dimir Infiltrator, Muddle the Mixture (Transmute) to grab us Dream Stalker, Cloud of Faeries, Manic Scribe or another 2 CMC utility
+ Diabolic Tutor
+ Mastermind's Acquisition
+ Shared Summons

Keep in mind that Transmute cards carry extra value because of their primary effects, although they will be used mostly as tutors here.

Knowing what Yarok might be able to do if he goes off, our opponents are going to want to stop us from executing a combo, especially when it will probably mean an instant loss. In order for us to deal with opponent interactions, I've included some responses:

+ In Garruk's Wake
+ Plague Wind
+ Counterspell
+ Negate
+ Rewind
+ Sultai Charm
+ Kenrith's Transformation
+ Reclamation Sage
+ Acidic Slime

There are some cards in this deck that pull double duty as removal or counters, such as Muddle the Mixture or Brainspoil. Even some of our combo pieces will help us get rid of threats while we work to set them up.

Finally, let's go over what we can do if we end up losing a valuable part of our strategy. When we manage to go off, we will become a huge threat so it shouldn't be surprising when we get hit with a counter or removal spell. We can retrieve with:

+ Eternal Witness
+ Archaeomancer
+ Recollect
+ Elixir of Immortality

So that covers just about everything in the deck. There are some interactions I didn't go over which you may find while reading this and looking at the deck list. There are also quite a few cards I didn't go over because they are, for the most part, redundant effects of cards mentioned here (things like ramp and draw). If you have any questions or comments, please feel free and if you discover a mistake or something that doesn't work, please let me know and I will fix it asap. With that, thank you for reading and happy brewing!
