Deck Description

Edit: Took out Kusari-Gama and added another Military Intelligence.

How to Play

Draw extra cards (turn two with Military Intelligence-Thopter/One-Drop or Ninja of Deep Hours), scry what you draw next, sabotage your enemy by bouncing, discarding, deathtouching their creatures. Finally steal their stuff with Ink-Eyes. Grin smugly.

A starting hand you want contains:
-Island or other blue-mana-sources (crucial for the early game; black comes in a bit later)
-One drop and/or Ornithopter
-Military Intelligence (start drawing extra Turn 2)
-Ninja for sabotage

* If Ornithopters and Military Intelligence are so crucial for the deck, you should run them in 4s.

* Alternatives for Obelisk of Urd would be Adaptive Automaton and Brass Herald.

* Sage of Epityr is a Sage Owl without flying but one mana cheaper, which I think is crucial for this deck (and Military Intelligence)

* Are you hellbent on Modern? Thalakos Seer is soooo sweet with ninjutsu ...

* Invisible Stalker would be another great creature choice (and I am surprised not seeing him in the mix).

* I don't see the point in Kusari-Gama when most of your creatures are unblockable anyway. Possible repalcements:
- Sai of Shinobi (if going Legacy): They would could be equipped on any ninja that comes into play via ninjutsu
- Umezawa's Jitte (if you can afford them)
- Banshee Blade

* Creeping Tar Pit if you can afford them.

* One problem with this deck is that once a ninja has been used, it sits on the battlefield and acts like an ordinarty creature. Keymaster Rogue would be perfect for this deck! He bounces a ninja back to your hand and is unblockable himself, so next turn the ninja can do it's deed again.

Hey Pusckin,

Sorry for the late response, kinda forgot. Many thanks for your input! I'm gonna address your suggestions.

-While I wouldn't run 4 Ornithopters - I think 3 suffice with the other one drop enablers -, I agree that there should be more than two Military Intelligence in the deck. I don't think I could justify 4 because I only know of one card at the moment I would take out for a third Military Intelligence.

-As creatures Automaton and Herald are too easily removed for my taste. Also if I have creatures I want to attack with them in this deck to enable Ninjutsu. Automaton could easily die to blockers and even if it doesn't I bounce my stuff on a regular basis which means losing the buff.
And with Convoke the +2/+2 bonus from Obelisk of Urd hits pretty hard.

-So, basically you're suggesting to take out the Sage Owl and run a second Epityr, right? I can get behind that. I chose the Owl because it has flying to have one more enabler but two Epityrs does have merit. Or would you maybe take out the Omenspeaker for another Epityr instead of the Owl?

- Thalakos Seer was in an earlier version of this deck. I kinda wanted to limit myself a little though (and sometimes I find Legacy a little imbalanced). That's the reason why I chose Modern. I'd also love to put Baleful Strix in there but for now I'm staying with this format.

-Invisible Stalker, mmmhh. I'm pretty torn about it. As an enabler I feel he's too expensive, I like to focus on 0/1-drops for that. And he has no Enter/Leave-the-battlefield ability that I can abuse with Ninjutsu. I'd have to test him but for now I'm pretty content with my enablers.

-Well, the point of the Kusari Gama was to make it unattractive for my opponent to block certain creatures. So either stuff dies, I use Ninjutsu and/or trigger combat damage abilities. But this may very well be the card I'd take out for a third Military Intelligence as mentioned above. Banshee Blade could be nice but the third Military Intelligence is probably more valuable after all.
Umezawa's Jitte on the other hand is probably the Magic card I hate the most. Such a badly designed POS. No hooks, no conditions, no wonder it's banned. Ridiculous.

-Can't afford 'em. :D

-Mmmh, didn't have much trouble yet as I start to bounce blockers pretty quickly. Once blockers are out there I come in with Virulent Swipe forcing to make the opponent some choices he/she might not like. And with the card draw as it is, I can surely follow up quickly once a Ninja dies. In emergencies Vapor Snag let's me bounce my stuff, Thassa and Higure make unblockable and Walker of Secret Ways and Faerie Impostor get my Ninjas back as well. Keymaster Rogue, while perfect on paper, I find too expensive for 4 mana. Wouldn't know what to take out as well.

-For my Goblin deck you suggested Infiltration Lens. Still thinking how it would fit in here. It's a pretty awesome card and I'd love to run it (for the lore alone =D ). Got any idea how to work that in here?

As the Shinobi have trigger effects for dealing combat damage to an opponent, I think cards like Sleep could be pretty cool mid to late game.

While I do love Sleep I think I have the ninja dealing damage covered by my unblockable-spells/abilities for now.
