Deck Description

****First Update made to this deck was on 12/22/2010 All the changes and discussion as to why, are in the first comment between "Atlas.." and myself****

A deck that uses merfolk as the pump up, grand architect as colorless mana for all blue creatures, and splash of artifacts to actually use grand architect's second ability.

-So main point is to attack for free with creatures natural abilities, and use the sword to generate tokens for chump defense/ more attackers.

-White spells are there as extra support in-case of board swipes or merfolk take to long to do their thing.

-Artifacts are splashed in for obvious reasons, and to help main merfolk stay alive and use abilities.

-Trump cards are usaully the titan made unblockable by venser, or i draw so much that i have platinum angel out with whispersilk cloak and now im deciding how you get to die.
Fun times.....

p.s. I need dire help with the sideboard O.O

Happy Camping!!!

Deck discussion for Merfolk/Sword Unblockable T2

a lot of these cards seem unnecessary and dont have much synergy together. If i were you, i'd strip this deck down to the bare necessities (take out the planeswalkers, titans, all the superfluous artifacts, etc.) and I'd think about what direction i want to take this deck in. You already have the skeleton of a merfolk deck or an equipment deck, so I'd choose one of those and build a deck around that concept. if I had a way to make equipment and merfolk go together, i would go for it, but otherwise it would have major potential to be sloppy and unfocused and i would only focus on one of those. And only after i built a satisfying deck would i ask myself, "Do any of the planeswalkers or mythic rares contribute to my deck substantially?" most likely, the answer would be no and i would leave them out.

I appreciate the feedback, but I don't get how they don't have much synergy together, could you explain a little better?
The main points of this deck are:
-Blue creatures get beefed up with either grand architect or merfolk sovereign.
-Artifacts make most of the merfolk unblockable, if artifacts don't come out, spreading seas are there for draw power and to give opponent an island because most of my cards have island walk built in and are getting beefed up from eachother.
-Titans, I admit frost titan is random, but probably taking him out to thin my deck to 61, and then dropping a planeswalker to get it to 60 flat.
-The jaces are staying for sure, because of the sheer draw power he gives me, ajani is good to create an army, or if they board swipe, gain me life, and venser makes things easy by exiling either a sun titan/ frost titan/ another planeswalker to get more loyalty tokens, or even an invisimancer to get something else unblockable like scroll theif to do damage and get the card draw.

I would love any more feedback you have though.

my comments about the planeswalkers was more my playstyle. they may work for you. Anyways, my comment was more about this deck seeming to have split focus. I really like the merfolk and equipment cards you have but I also don't see how your kembas will beef and your merfolk will amass in a timely manner (especially against aggro decks). For example, what if your opponent goes first and drops a watchwolf or garruk's companion on turn two and just didn't let up after that? I just feel like you could make a much more focused deck if you made your deck around only one strategy. But if this deck works for you, go for it. I guess i can relate because I made a merfolk/ moonfolk deck a while back and it got 10 times better when i decided to only focus around merfolk. Thanks for responding!

So atlas, I decided to go through and build the deck today at my local card shop and it was around 120... pretty steep, but this is my deck till next block rotation so I might as well spend to take to tourneys in my area. Thats being besides the point..... I did follow your advice, talked to a couple buddies, and decided to change up the deck a bit to get into a little bit of a better focus like you mentioned. I'll leave another comment below with the changes, but thanks for the advice!

-I took out the Enclave elites, they were pointless unless I had spreading seas, or was playing a U/W control deck or some other blue deck.

-Which leads to me taking out the spreading sea's because the only creature that had island walk built in was the elites.... I felt kinda dumb for overlooking that lol but it was the "skeleton" like you said bahaha.

-Took out the kemba, kha regent..... kept them in my other random white deck though.... have to make a deck revolved around her at a later time, they were kinda random... ok really random in this deck.

-Right now I'm trying to cut down on the 2 cards to drop to sixty, so maybe dropping a everflowing chalice, and the last aether figment to keep a a little smaller.

-Last but not least, trying to decide on taking out the sword of body and mind's to throw in maybe an argemuntum armor or something, after play testing, I realized that sword doesn't let me target anything it's equipped to with merfolk sovereign's unblockable ability. Or i might just keep them in, and spend the two mana to un-equip a creature, use sovereign's ability on it, then re-equip since the ten card mill is really good, about five hit's after turn three, and your deck is gone, so the mana might be well spent on that. But also, sejiri merfolk, a merfolk sovereign on the field, and sword attached to sejiri, that's already a 5/4 with first strike and lifelink and protection from green and blue for relatively cheap. especially if i get the grand architect out and use creatures to cast the artifact spells. Thats what makes me want to keep the swords in lol...... if grand is out with that combo, it's a 6/5 with first strike O.O thats a problem..... especially in this format early on lol

-Lastly, I was looking at corahelm commander, cosi's trickster for a side against valakut decks, and a halimar wavewatch, the coralhelms to get the +1/+1's to each other merfolk, but grand kinda already does that. Or the halimar's to get a 1/7 early on or even a 2/8 wall with grand architect out and sovereign, then later game use it as a flying attacker..... :] only time will tell.
