Deck Description

I bought a Origins Deckbuilders Toolkit, and I got good pulls for this kind of deck. (also, a r/b rush deck, I'll put a link when I've made it!) Also, I heard tht this was going around in Standard, so, yea.

Deck discussion for Pointy Sticks

Now, I know, It's noobishly built, only one of most things, yada yada yada. But, give me a break. Also, a new MTG Vault person! First time I've done ANYTHING on here!

If this deck is actually built by a noob, it is pretty impressive. It is pretty much as good as it can be from the cards of Deckbuilder's Toolkit. Has my like.

...Oh hell, where are my manners? If you are new around here, I suppose it is my responsibility to welcome you to the site and, of course, introduce myself.

Hi! I'm NorthernWarlord (as you may already know, duh!), but you (and everyone else around here) may call me Northy. Most people say that I'm the master of budget decks around here. You can enter my channel by clicking my name above or checking the link below.

Another channel you probably would like to check out is surewhynot's channel. He is one helluva good deckbuilder and has been around for a long time. He visits this site pretty rarely nowadays and is pretty much a legend around here.

Third channel you would enjoy is Gothy's channel. Unfortunately, he stopped using this website a couple of weeks ago, but he has a mighty collection of handy tips about becoming a better standard player.

I hope your first moments with the awesome community of MTG Vault have been pleasant! There are a plenty of new decks coming out every day, as example, I attempt to craft a budget deck every day. Also, this website is updated really quickly after every single expansion and set.

And as I always say:
Keep playing MTG, keep crafting decks, keep having fun, and of course, stay AWESOME!

The only flaw this deck currently has is too many cards. You should try cutting some off!

Always good to see new players excited about MTG as well as a new person to the site.
As for this deck all in all not badly put together considering where/how it came to be. As mentioned above by Northy this deck has to many cards. I'm not gonna sugar coat this aspect either. It has exactly 21 to many cards, 20 if Kytheon isn't actually in the deck. The situations of wanting more then 60 cards in a deck are for the most part never worth taking into consideration. The fewer cards a deck has the more likely chance of drawing what you want/need in any given situation. Not to mention the land/spell ratio is way off. A 60 card deck runs statistically perfect at 23-24 lands. Certain variables will effect this, like running a burn deck which mainly consists of 1 cmc spells therefore allowing you to play less land. Your mana curve directly correlates with this as well.
If you would like me to break down all the cards and why, IMO they should be cut I will if you would like .
Of course these are just my opinions take them for what they're worth, Happy Casting. :)

Thank you for your input, I will gladly take it. But my problem is i see uses for a card, even if pros DON'T. So the 21 extra cards I DO see a use for, and my subconscious tells me to include those for all situations. (BTW, Kytheon IS in the deck, but as one of the Origins flip-walker marker cards.) And yes, I would like to see a pros veiw of these cards, and which to cut. Thanks fr your imput, and I was wondering if you could look at my other posted deck, http://www.mtgvault.com/mtgtiger/decks/them-zada-cccombo-breakers/

PS: did you find this because I marked it as Unloved?

Yes, I like to spend free time viewing Unloved decks and offering help when I can.
I agree with you that many of these cards have a potential use in way or another. However you are making your deck much much more unreliable and down right bad by play so many. The fewer cards in a deck statistically makes for a more consistent game.

Ok! I would like to take you up on you offer for creating a list of the cards and why they should be cut so I can cut them and learn something for the future. Thanks!

Ok here we go.
For starters since this is a standard deck M15 is no longer legal so Aegis Angel and Flesh to Dust are an easy two for legality reasons. (79)<--remaining cards in the deck.
Since your not running hexproof creatures aura are generally a bad idea, you're setting yourself up for getting 2 for 1'd. Abzan Runemark, Grasp of the Hieromancer and even Murder Investigation should all be cut. Murder investigation does give some value when your creature dies but not enough since the tokens are not warriors. (76)

So then it's important to know that most games are decided by turn 5, which means in a deck that has zero ramp in it should seriously limit the 4 cmc + spells. so 3-4 spells that cost 4 should be the most and 2 maybe 3 that cost 5 cmc or more. So considering Jayemdae Tome costs 8 before little benefit at all makes it a horrible card in this deck. Sentinel of the Eternal Watch seems OK but not for the investment your putting into it, remember at earliest it's coming into play turn 6 and is a dead card in hand up until then. I do like Kothophed, Soul Hoarder but your never gonna want 2 of them in hand. As well there are gonna be times when it comes into play you wont want it to since it can actually kill you. I'd limit it to 1 of. and then Suppression Bonds is to expensive for what it does. (71)
Well I already talked about the tomb so I'll explain the other artifacts you have. Lens of Clarity is a side board card because it's only good against certain decks and will be a dead card in hand more often then not. Sigil of Valor is just bad since your deck is not designed to be attacking with 1 creature, as well as it being to much investment for little value. Prism ring is the same as Lens, It's a side board card to put in against burn match ups, Gaining life is actually irrelevant unless your opponent's deck is designed to kill you by direct damage, or if your deck needs to win by way of Felidar Sovereign. Throwing Knife again is not that good, it doesn't pump the toughness and the ability only triggers when the creature attacks, It's basically dealing 2 damage for 4. The Horn is OK if you have a board state but useless other wise cut it to 1. So if you counted all that i'm sorry to say but in the main deck Only run 1 artifact and that's 1 copy of Horn. (63)
Flatten is a removal card but a very expensive one the doesn't kill most of the big threats in the format.(like siege Rhino). Probably should get cut. (62)
Tainted Remedy once again, you guessed it is a Side Board card great in certain match ups but a dead card in most. (61)
The last cut would have to be putting Shadows of the Past to a 1 of. Your never gonna want 2 and having 1 is nice but doesn't really effect the game until later. ******60********
There's my cuts down to 60 with the cards you have.

In addition to that I think you need to cut all cards except for Infinite Obliteration from your side board. Add the cards I suggested previously. A side board is for cards that will perform exceptionally well against certain tier 1-2 decks in the format but useless other times. Most of the cards in yours just seem to be cards you like or wanted in the deck but ran out of room.

Finally a few cards that could replace ones left in the deck or worth considering would be Gideon's Reproach to replace Celestial Flare, Stasis Snare can replace Pacifism and Silk Wraps,. Languish is probably the best board whip in standard right now so 1 will come in handy no doubt.

I very well may be wrong on a few points but over all this will make your deck more more consistent. Take all of this for what it is, just my opinions and Happy Casting.
