Deck Description

A series where I go through some tips to beat up the major archetypes of magic.

Aggro decks are about punching someone in the face as fast and as hard as possible in order to kill them through sheer efficiency and speed. Aggro comes in many forms like goblins and merfolk but for the most part aggro decks are traditionally red based and use cheap removal and strong, fast creatures to lock games out. Some variations of this deck are Burn, Affinity, and Tempo.

If your meta is aggro heavy and you want to beat them then you have many options going for you but the biggest part to beating aggro is this, kill their speed. With aggro decks they depend on going fast and playing things that either put your life total more out of reach or can handle their speedy creatures and efficient removal. In the example decklist we do that through mother of runes, wall of hope, thalia, swords to plowshares, imposing sovereign, and SFM into any equipment.

Thalia is a first strike creature that makes cheap removal more expensive. Making someone have to choose whether or not to remove a threat or drop a threat rather than having the resources to do both.

Mother of Runes is a creature that gives any other creature protection from a color. As a lot of aggro decks (barring affinity) are a certain color this can effectively counter removal as well as act as an indestructible blocker.

Swords to Plowshares is one of the most powerful removal spells and as many aggro decks run creatures that arent going to make their life total something rediculous like 30+ we can deal with threats insanely effectivly.

SFM gets us sword of fire and ice, batterskull, or jitte which turn into fantastic removal or a way to close out the game quickly.

Wall of hope is an efficient blocker that puts our life total higher.

Imposing Sovereign essentially makes it so haste doesnt exist.

Other card choices include aether vial so you can drop surprise blockers as well as have the ability to both drop a creature and play removal/scarab/ajani/another creature. Red Scarab because of the sheer amount of red aggro decks it would allow our creatures to swing home. Ferrel's Zealot to act as repeatable removal who would be carrying our scarab. Ajani goldmane is to win the game as well as buy time to assemble some defense and go over their head.
