Deck Description

Basic Idea
The decks of the Advanced series are intended for players that already have mastered the basic rules, and are fit for some more powerful and complex decks.
With this deck I wanted to create a more complex Gruul deck, that would focus on creatures with trample and haste in addition to some removal and combat tricks.

Cardpool and Budget
I decided to stay modern legal, with a budget of 45-55$ (Estimated mid value)

Upgradeability/ Room for improvements
This deck is bound to a general strategy, named "Stompy", thus playing aggressive and attacking your opponent with powerful creatures.
As this is a general strategy, in opposite to concentrating on a certain keyword or tribe, it should be easy to improve the cards used in this deck and to keep the deck up to date. New editions will often contain cards that can be fitted into this deck.

Tests
At the moment this deck exists only on this site and has never been played against another deck.

I'm open to all suggestions and ideas that may help to improve this deck.

How to Play

This is a rather aggressive deck to play with trampling creatures so playing defensively is only an option when your opponent's defence is to strong and you're waiting for a break in his rows or you're waiting to play your Overrun.
Garruk's Companion is your main working creature with Talara's Battalion as a stronger, but harder to play, backup. Having trample and a formidable power for their mana-costs makes them hard to block and good threads against your opponent.
All attacking creatures, even a simple Spark Elemental, are supported by Rubblebelt Raiders. He is thus a huge threat to your opponent as he will permanently increase the power of all your attacking creatures each turn. Drawback is that he doesn't have trample and his damage can easily be blocked.
Garruk's Packleader let's you draw cards for each creature you play. The more Packleaders you have on the field, the more cards you can draw per played creature.
Expedite can be used on any late-played creature to ensure that it can attack the turn it is played...very useful if you manage to play a second Rubblebelt Raiders.
Blossoming Defense should be used to protect your creatures from your opponent's destruction spells while Titanic Growth and Giant Growth can be used against removal like Shock/ Lightning Bolt or to increase one of your attacking creatures power.

Deck discussion for R/G Beginner: Advanced Stompy

Not a bad beginner deck. I only have one problem: Talara's Battalion. I personal experience has got me hating the card. I lost count how many times the Battalion was in hand without a second green card or without enough mana to cast it after another green card, and that was in a mono green deck. Also, the casting limiter feels a little difficult for a new player. Might I suggest Something like Strangleroot Geist or Kalonian Tusker in its place? They at least don't have the casting limiter.

I know exactly what you're meaning as this was also one of my concerns, but in the end I wanted to give it a try because of it's incredible good power/toughnes/ mana ratio and trample ability. First I had 4 Battalion in mind but decided against it because of the restrictions when casting it. In the end I lowered it's number to 3 and removed 2 Titanic Growth to add 2 Giant Growth to have a cc1 green spell in the deck to make it easier to cast.
Kalonian Tusker was on my list but I decided against him because of the lack of trample. Strangleroot Geist is a good creature but would bring another mechanic, Undying, with him, something I wanted to avoid for a single card-choice. I found that the good, but simple, cc2/cc3 trample creatures are a rather rare catch.
Groundbreaker would be a strong option but I already have Spark Elemental and loosing the alternative working creature isn't in my likings. Hungry Spriggan could also be an option.
For the moment I would add 3 Hungry Spriggan to the sideboard and see how the deck behaves on some testgames. Next week there will be a small tournament with friends where, when choosen, it will be tested. As I'm breaking in the new players I should be able to see if this will work rather quickly and make a change to the deck within minutes.

May I suggest Vines of Vastwood instead of Titanic Growth? Same total mana cost and it gives hexproof

In most other cases I would say yes, especially if it would be another cc1 spell that could help to cast Talara's Battalion. In this special case I wouldn't add it (at least not mainboard) because kicker brings a complete new mechanic into a beginners deck which you would have to explain. When I see that the player starts to get used to playing magic then it can be traded for titanic Growth, I totally agree on that.
