Deck Description

This is the first deck I've ever built. I'd appreciate any advice or criticism more experienced players have to offer. Thanks for looking.

After reading some advice from the comments below I made several tweaks to my initial build. Any further comments would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Deck discussion for UW Control Deck

absurdly solid deck for your first ever deck. absurdly expensive as well but thats besides the point. not so sure if i would keep tectonic edge in, it have much to do with the focus of the deck and it looks like its taking up some card space. i would replace the pacifisms with path to exiles if your not going standard (their still good i think now but theyll be out soon in like 3 months.) i also do not know how well jaces erasure works because i have never used it yet, but if it seems to be not doing anything, i would suggest replacing it with maybe some defense like wall of denial or wall of frost. REALLY good first attempt though.

Thanks for the comment hipponox. The path to exiles have been replaced. The idea behind Jace's Erasure is as I have Jace, the Mind Sculptor drawing cards for me, I should be able to force the other player to put quite a few away. I have yet to test it though. I'm also not sure about tectonic edge. It seems mildy useful though and I couldn't really think of anything better to take its place. I will be playing standard at my local FNM which is why I chose not to go with path of exiles. And... thanks for the 8. I did a lot of reading and research so its good to know I have a vague idea of what is going on.

are you trying to get competitive or casual?

4 baneslayer and 4 sphinx are too much, you need some wall of omens in here
i would maximise the condemns and even replace them with path to exile
replace pacifism with ovblivion ring
pacifism sucks
play jace only as a 3 of he can't be twice on the field so you certainly don't want to draw 2 in on ehand

goo first attempt but if you are new to magic don't start with standard, caus eyou will never learn what magic really is

Mostly casual although I will be playing FNM at my local shop. I agree with your assessment of baneslayer & sphinx and have reduced their #'s in the deck. I got rid of pacifism and replaced with condemns. I also lowered Jace to 3 and added some defense. Thanks for the feedback. Any further thoughts on the tweaked deck?

I don't think the Jace's Erasures seem to be needed much. You already have better win conditions for this deck and so they appear to just be taking up space. The dispels seem slightly subpar as well. I'd probably think about adding in some day of judgements and/or Oblivion Rings as well. They are awesome for taking out just about anything, even opposing planeswalkers! Great first deck though. Check out my UW control. Just made it recently but it hasn't got quite as much for expensive cards (besides a couple lucky planeswalkers I recieved). http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=79162

I don't know much about control decks, I've never built one, but whenever I see Wall of Omens in a U/W deck I always see Wall of Denial taking it's place. Only costs one more land to cast, better defense and shroud. the only drawback is you won't get to draw a card. Just a thought

The extra card is amazing as it basically replaces itself and the fact that it comes down a turn earlier can make a world of difference when staring down a RDW deck, filled with haste and burn! Adding a couple Wall of Denial isn't too bad of an idea but usually it seems best to keep the Wall of Omens.

closedmindedinsomniac,
Wall of Denial is definitely an awesome card. But... I will mostly be playing standard. Wall of Denial will be phased out in a few months and will no longer be use-able in standard.
