Deck Description

This deck is not just U/W control. It TAKES control. Expect to take some hits early on, but once you get 4 mana out, the control begins. Flicker Stonehorn Dignitary with Venser, Galepowder Mage, or Conjurer's Closet. Remember that Stonehorn's ability stacks. So try flicking it on the turn it enters to buy 2 turns of immunity. This means that even if you only have one source of flicker on the field, you can buy yourself one extra turn to flick something else. Flick a Phyrexian Ingester to gobble up your opponent's fliers and pave the way for some incredible life gain and card draw with Drogskol Reaver. Once Drogskol Reaver is on the field, your Pristine Talismans keep putting cards in your hand. Reliquary Tower lets you keep insane numbers of cards. Omniscience lets you play them all at once and exile everything your opponent controls, if you've got Venser's emblem. Curse of Exhaustion slows down your opponent early on and locks him/her out of casting spells from his/her hand once you drop Knowledge Pool. You usually don't want to play Knowledge Pool unless Curse of Exhaustion is already in place, but if you are close to milling your opponent out, dropping Knowledge Pool and then flickering it with Venser can be a nasty surprise wincon. Of course, if Omniscience is on the field go right ahead and play Knowledge Pool. You can play out your spells however you like for free and use the Pool to steal your opponent's fatties. Temporal Mastery can help you stack Stonehorn's entry effect more times to buy even more time to do interesting things with your Planeswalkers.

Wincons:
-Fly in for brutal damage while pumping your own life with Drogskol Reaver.
-Submit your opponent by exiling everything he/she controls.
-Put an end to pesky attack phases and watch while Azor's Elecutors wins you a game.
-Lock your opponent out of the game with Knowledge Pool + Curse of Exhaustion
-Mill your opponent out with Jace (and sometimes even Knowledge Pool)

Weaknesses:
-Burn decks
-Removal
-Wrath effects

Sideboard in Karn, the Liberated for even more unrelenting control. He can restart the game for you if you are in a pickle, but most likely will just help you submit your opponent with exiles. Sideboard in Cloudshift to create more flicker opportunities and to protect creatures from removal.

Since the curve is so high, I usually don't mind mulliganing a few times if it means I'll start with at least 3 lands in my hand. Or even just 2 lands and a Telling Time is fine.

How to Play

Play Pristine Talisman on turn 3. I play Venser on turn 4 if I have enough Mana and the board situation is safe for him. Otherwise I play Stonehorn Dignitary turn 4 and then Venser on turn 5. Curse of exhaustion is also a great card to get out early since it slows down your opponent. Pretty much just use Venser to flick Stonehorn until you are able to get the rest of your pieces in place. Hold off on using Knowledge Pool until your opponent is cursed with Curse of Exhaustion.

Deck discussion for Control Overkill

Please help me build my sideboard. Right now the deck is weak against Burn decks. I have Witchbane Orb to protect myself from burn spells, but if my Venser or Stonehorn is removed I could be in trouble.

Dispel or Counterspell. Or if your only concern is burn, Blue Elemental Blast could be good.

Replace Witchbane Orb with Leyline of Sanctity. Add Counterspell or Mana Leak. Move Karn to the main deck. Add Path to Exile and Journey to Nowhere for removal.
