Deck Description

Since I made a mono blue newbie-friendly starter deck a while back, I decided to make one for each of the other colors as well! The link to the blue one is below!

You know someone who wants to start playing casual MTG, and enjoys some honorable combat? Well, look no further than this!

I mostly use MTG Vault for my own private projects nowadays, but feel free to comment or request a deck of your choice. I've loved the Vault so far, and I like that they are still improving on it, as well as I am improving on my English language skills.

So, if you like what you see, consider checking out some of my other budget-y work from the link below.

How to Play

This deck combines soldier creature type support with +1/+1 counters and even some death synergy to create a quite efficient aggro-midrange-hybrid beatdown deck.

To play this deck, a player should know the basic rulings of Magic: The Gathering. In addition, this deck includes a handful of useful keywords and abilities, which are listed down below:
- Vigilance. The keyword vigilance is present on Steadfast Sentry. It means that the creature can attack while remaining untapped (in upright position), so it can ALSO block enemy attacks during your opponent's next turn.
- Flying. As present in Sigarda's Summons, creatures with flying cannot be blocked by other creatures without flying and reach, meaning they are often efficient attackers! They can still block enemy creatures without flying, unless otherwise specified.
- A +1/+1 counter. Found on several different cards on this deck, +1/+1 counters are more or less permanent modifications on creatures. A creature gets +1 to its power and toughness for each +1/+1 counter on it. If the creature leaves the battlefield for any reason and returned to play later on, it will return WITHOUT any +1/+1 counters on it. It is suggested to use dice to mark these counters on your creatures!
- Exile. Fairgrounds Warden and Valiant Veteran include the word 'exile' in them. When a card is exiled, it leaves the game and is put to the side. It is pretty much considered gone for good, unless otherwise specified (such as in Fairgrounds Warden, for example)!

Keeping these keywords in mind, you can start playing this deck. Start out by casting one or more smaller soldiers, then boosting them up with several cards included. You can even make sort of a suidical charges as well, since Ninth Bridge Patrol, Steadfast Sentry and in a sense even Valiant Veteran can benefit from creatures (others or themselves) dying. Recover the most valuable creatures with Patch Up, and remove harmful threats with either Swift Response or Fairgrounds Warden. If the game goes on for long enough, you can find additional boosts from fallen Valiant Veterans or even Sigarda's Summons, which turns all your buffed dudes into big, flying angels!

This deck's sideboard contains cards that help you develop the deck into a direction you prefer. If you wish to focus on the soldier tribal synergy, consider Ballyrush Banneret, Veteran Swordsmith and Captain of the Watch. If you want to include more utilities for +1/+1 counters, Star Pupil, Odric's Outrider and Light of the Legion might help. For some death-synergy, you can consider the previous cards, as well as Angelic Purge. Also don't forget to keep an eye out for cards you find cool!
